S77th-GOYA Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 I think thats a rather pessimistic view. People now have a chance to directly contribute to and influence the game. The only changes that can be made with these tools are cosmetic. Gameplay won't change at all. And gameplay is what needs the most attention. That being said, there are a few things that need a facelift and there may be some fun in adding a model of something crazy.

That's true & well said! It seems that ED is moving the sim towards more control by the end user - at least in models. Makes me wonder about their next project even more.
kato217 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 People now have a chance to directly contribute to and influence the game. Modding has always been about the gratification of adding a personal creation into a publicly admired forum. With these tools, people with an interest in spending time and effort in creating 3D models now have a much expanded breadth of potential. ...IMO the "real" modders will only begin to fully utilize these tools then, when we understand just what can and cannot be feasibly done. 100% agree EvilBivol :) To that end, here's a look at what I've been doing relative to "what can, and can't be done". Still have to figure out how to use the "arguments" to get flight surfaces moving, and how to put a pilot in the cockpit - guess I need a 3DS file of a pilot?! Found this F-5 model on the web... Wow - been using 3ds max for 5 mins - I was happy just to create a .lom file already - hehe! :) Yep, I'm trying to figure that out now! Weta43 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Not being a model builder I may have missed the point of the latest tool released (http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.ph...586#post238586). but it seems to me that there was a couple of attempts at getting a sub in at the begining of this thread & the size & orientation was all wrong - this was discussed in the forum & a tool to help with this was released - perhaps if you hold your head at the right angle (& someone from ED sees the discussion on how to get the animations to work) they'll release more info? C'mon ED, it's very close to being a very nice thing to have released :-) Also - there's cosmetic & there's cosmetic. I've modded the F4 view so that is looks back from just above the back of the cockpit. You can look back & down past the wings to check bombing results, check your 6 (I thought the plane realy should get in hte way when you do this...) - Lovely on the Su25T but for the Su-25 that model is UGLY up close - more so when you see the new weapons models against it. Cheers.
Pilotasso Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 BTW where can I get 3dmax 7? I have truespace 6 only and albiet its a demo only it is fully functional. I have used it extensively in the past. Also where can I get aircraft models? Im making an F-16 block 15 OCU pit even if theres no way to make it work, I can only hope... ;) .
knellknell Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 I think the initial euforia will later disapear and we will be hit by a simple fact: That none of the work so far is serious nor will it have any impact on the game and the only thing we could ever hope is to replace old models that we wont even notice the difference when inside the pit anyway. Realy big MODs are rare in the LOck on comunity and we risk never to take much advantage of these tools. Also theres an awkward resistence of this community suport MODer's or any of their projects. The flying saucer and the mirage jets wont have any concrete functionality and have no part in the game play aside from cute experiments to break the boredom. Without any pit making tool we realy wont advance much. I think I have hyped it a bit too much with this thread. Sorry guys. :( I think you dont understand the possibilty of these tools. With these i can : -Put a new 3D plane model in lockon ( sure i use an allready ingame plane) -I can put new 3 D models foru tank , weapons , specifics to my new plane -Changing Meinit, i can adjust Weapons positions, weight, fuel load, speed etc. -With Object viewer, i can change and tune all my models very preciselly without lauching the game, chek the animations, arguments etc... -And, because cockpit are separated 3D object, i m abble to do brand new one for my brand new plane. - In the futur we can have some total conversion mod ( only restriction is to put same generation aircraft to stick with FM ) ( May be ED will release a tool to tweak the non use FM ? :music_whistling::music_whistling:) SO it s IMHO, the biggest step we saw ever in this game. BTW what are the modification you've made or plan to make ? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Pilotasso Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 ^^^^I understand just fine as I did when i wrote the text on your quote. In turn I think you didnt understand what I meant. You can add new models all you want, youll only change the eternal apearance of existing aircraft, that morage wont BE a mirage but the aircraft you used replaced with it. Without the knoelege to actualy and trully add that aircraft in Meinit and its functional pit the mirage is not trully IN the sim. The weapons models you can put will only replace those that already exist and can never add new ones. .

dodger42 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 True, but one step at a time. Think how much nicer we can make those ground units around airfields look. Shouldn't be a big fps hit, but should make it look much nicer. . . . Lockon Advanced Realism with Touch-Buddy
Pilotasso Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 The only thing I can think off being totaly new potential is to add entire cities to the empty spaces of the map. I can add my town in one of those deserted gulfs. But after a while I will end up being like in MS FS: flying over the new landscape, nothing more. .
Alfa Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Not being a model builder I may have missed the point of the latest tool released (http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.ph...586#post238586). but it seems to me that there was a couple of attempts at getting a sub in at the begining of this thread & the size & orientation was all wrong - this was discussed in the forum & a tool to help with this was released Yeah Weta you did miss something :D . I could put the subs into the game because of the released 3DS Max plug-in.....i.e the ability to convert a .max model to .lom format. The fact that it showed up (extremely) over sized and with wrong orientation etc, was due to my lack of knowledge in scaling and orientating the model in 3DS Max before converting it to .lom format :) There were no tools to fix this......I just got a little wiser along the line as I fiddled with it :book:. The latest "Lo-viewer" tool is for checking animations(i.e functionality of moving parts) :) Cheers, - JJ. JJ
Stealth_HR Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Since we're already on topic of modding (and the dev team is milling around answering questions here and there) - is there any way we can add a small but critical piece of realism inside? Say, engine smoke? :P I've seen the Fulcrum live and I know that thing drags a smoke curtain behind its engines! Is there any way that could be implemented? Something like Kato's screenshot with the F-5s, only dark and looking like actual smoke? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Real men fly ground attack :pilotfly: where EVERYTHING wants a piece of you :D
Pilotasso Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 ^^^^I would also like to know this one. .

So according to this list, we have the full ability to create a total conversion including a brand new aircraft model, its cockpit, functional weapons on the right positions, all working together? The only thing missing would be the FM, but wow! SU-30MKI F/A-18F ...Beauty, grace, lethality.
knellknell Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Ruggbutt, if you had DL the Objectviewer, you may see that cockpit are 3D model, like aircratf vehicule and so on.... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
kato217 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Ruggbutt, if you had DL the Objectviewer, you may see that cockpit are 3D model, like aircratf vehicule and so on.... Yes, but unfortunately, the HUD information, MFD screens, and gauge needles will still be in the same place as they were in the original cockpit. My first thought was to make an F-18 cockpit for the VBA's instead of the F-15 cockpit we use now, but I wouldn't be able to have 3 working MFD's, and the F-15 TEWS would still show up over whatever F-18 geometry I put in the Kabina file. ...unless someone knows how to adjust all that, but I believe that is what Ruggbutt was referring to. Looks like Strikemax has figured out the animations on Knells Lockon-Models forum :-) - gonna go try it now Скрытый текст data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAPABAP///wAAACH5BAEKAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAICRAEAOw== data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAPABAP///wAAACH5BAEKAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAICRAEAOw== data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAPABAP///wAAACH5BAEKAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAICRAEAOw==
