Hi guys, i may be a complete noob in this regard but over on the russian forums, from what i can gather, "swu" and "Dronas" has been working on a Yak-52 since 2005 and has now implemented the aircraft in game.

The model is one of the best that i have seen, comaparable to the Su-25T in detail.

 

This would be one of the best addons for this simulator allowing new and not so new pilots to practice their flying skills via the traditional method with the posibility of a complete initial pilot training to encourage correct flying techiques.:pilotfly:

Should make escort missions in a mig-29 fun, lol, yak breaking speed records, mig trying to balance on that edge between high alpha flight and deep stall. Yaay! What about that yak-40? I'm just too lazy to read the Russian forum.

Yak-52 is made by some 3D designer outside ED Team. If I'm not wrong they talked to implement this to LOMAC but decided to make such a version for a really small group of people - I guess some kind of limited edition. Don't know how to get it. Maybe this will be in version for military sim...

On a semi-related note, I see the IL2 successor, BoB Storm of War seems to have a modern aerobatic aircraft for formo practice. (Su-??) Nice.

And do they have AFM? Cool, maybe I'll buy it then, but not if it has jiggly-twiggly X-plane like handling.

I would imagine that Oleg Maddox likes to think that ALL of IL2/BoB SOW's FM's are AFM's!

 

What defines an AFM from a FM? Adding the word 'Advanced' in there is totally subjective...they're all just simulations of reality. At what point does the level of fidelity in any one model suddenly surpass the level required to go from being called a FM to an AFM?

 

I've been curious about this kind of definition for a while - to us the difference, practically speaking, is clear (Su-25's vs everything else), but if you ask somebody who plays another sim "Does XXX sim have AFM?", they'll be baffled! :)

Exactly, its just a word, you equally call it the OK flight model as compared to the rather crappy flight model of other planes in the game

First time I flew the su25 (not the t) and went through that scripted landing I was about to chuck the disk, considering the marketing blurb and my expectation a degree of realism it was very poor

I will buy BS (unless it gets delayed untill spring then other things will take my time), but am prepared to find a lot of the stuff is over-hyped, its par for the course in the sim world

If you regard them all as games with a sometimes good attempt at simulation your in for less dissapointment

there is a reason designers still use wind tunnels and physical scale models...............even the best simulations available to the aerospace designer are flawed

From my definition FM signifies a single vector describing the entire airframe in the entire flight envelope.

 

AFM signifies an array of individual and somewhat independant vectors defining seperate parts of the airframe over the entire flight envelope (wing removal in su-25 acts realiusticaly).

Also the calculation of the non-linear regions of fluid flow over the object (wing rock at high alpha) i.e. not laminar all the time with as stated above, scripted flight model actions and reactions for landing, stalls and especialy spins.

 

BTW does any one have a decent CFD program that allows simple calculations to be done over importable 3D models (i wana make a skin that displays the surface fluid velocities over the su-25 :))
