DieHard Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 (edited) Hi, Adding GeForce GTX 970 to Alienware Aurora R3 to replace GTX 680, waiting for delivery. NewEgg.com purchase. Added a new Samsung 850 Pro SSD (512GB) card last week, (M) drive. I just added it and installed fresh new DCSW 2.0 and 1.5 to it, then added some of my modules, mostly the copters. Left my DCSW original install on © . Is it absolutely necessary to deactivate my modules before changeout to new GTX 970 card? I still have my original activations. I have most of the module inventory. Don't care if I lose only one per each module. But also do not wish to create a nightmare situation. Not planning on a new machine just yet. Why I ask is because of this resource: ======================== http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/Problem_with_Activation If necessary, what is the procedure to deactivate / reactivate each, per module? Thanks for any help. Edited July 16, 2016 by DieHard [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
jvanhoog Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Hi Diehard. I had a hell of a time to deactivate modules for awhile but it seems to work ok now running the protect exe in the aircraft bin files. I also changed video cards last year without deactivating my modules and did not lose activations [video cards are not listed in the hardware points system they have], as well I see they have implemented a activate/deactivate system in the module manager in the latest builds. Hope this helps a bit.
GeorgeLKMT Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 No, you don't have to: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/documentation/dcs_world_activation_guide_en/ An activation will be required if the hardware/software changes exceed 12 points as rated below: CPU ID: 13 Windows PID: 3 Computer Name: 3 Hard drive volume serial number: 3 MAC address: 6 RAM amount: 6 ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■
dburne Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 No need to go through de-activate and activate from just changing out video cards. I just put a new 1080 in my replacing my 970 a couple days ago. DieHard Posted July 17, 2016 Author Posted July 17, 2016 (edited) Thanks guys. I checked the Dell and Alienware forums to see how far I can go upgrading according to my current PC build. Couple guys suggested the Asus Strix GTX 970 and had success with it, my motherboard being same. Its price has come down. If I go the 1080 I'd have to build a new machine. Wrecking Crew Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Some cards come in different lengths, check if space is tight. No need to deactivate IMO, too. All released missions are available for free download, modification and public hosting, from my Wrecking Crew Projects site.
