I see in the manual references to the gun camera. Will it do anything in the sim?

Cheers.

Other Belsimtek modules like MiG-15Bis and F-86F also has gun camera option, if turned on it will display a black and white guncam photo of your shots on lower right corner of screen, as long as the trigger is held down. May be there is an option to save them to disk too not sure.

Edit : though I don't have any first hand info, I expect it would be similar in F-5 too.

Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V

Unfortunately you can't save them to disk (it would be super awesome if they added it somehow). On the current BST planes, you can turn the little window on or off all the time, or only on for replays.

This is true, however, its a simple little bit of video sorcery and editing to get gun-cam only footage if you wanted to, i kinda wish the P-51D had this option, i would love to make a couple "Vintage" style gun-cam videos.

Yes, you can do it like that and it's already a great feature (just like the SARPP output on the L-39). I just think it would be even better if you could easily export it outside. Not just for video montages but also for realistic debriefings.

Oh no doubt about it, that would be a great option if it could ever be done, and im sure we are not the only people who would like something like that to be possible at some point.

You mean we CAN'T view the gun cam footage in a replay or as an independent file ?

It's a great view ... but not when it's in front of your Controls and/or you are trying to shoot someone down and NOT look at the camera footage whilst doing so !

Obviously, I now have it turned off (so it doesn't appear while flying) BUT I thought we'd still have access to it later if/when we save a Track File for example !! ??

No eh ?

I'm with you on that Tiger, it is potentially a great feature, but unfortunately I just never use it because of its current implementation. Odd to see it floating while you are in the cockpit. It is available in Replay, but it's still only over the cockpit, and also means you have to sit through an entire replay if you just want to go back and check your gunnery.

Funnily enough, I noticed that the small exposure dial on top of the dash actually rotates-- you can set the camera's aperture depending on whether it's bright, B-- f/22, or dim, D-- f/ 2.8, weather. I doubt this affects the guncamera currently, but how awesome would it be if a Re-Arm loaded the camera with film, and the aperture affected the brightness of the final images?

I'm a photography geek and have shot a good amount of 16mm. Being able to do so in DCS would really make my day!

I do hope they implement the ability to view GunCam footage on it's own (i.e. separate Track File) some day.

I noticed along with the Exposure knob you mention is the ability to set how long the camera stays on after pressing the trigger (3 secs up to 10 secs ... I think ?!).

Plus if/when working, the Red Text indicator thingy will say how many feet of film is remaining.

Anyway, it may be a cool feature some day.

While I too would like very much if the Gun Camera images were naturally exported (e.g. to the Screenshots file), there should be something we can do to improve the in-game experience.

I suspect the Gun Camera is exportable as a Viewport. So if you've got more than one monitor (or virtual monitor), you should be able to export the camera output there, so it's off of your main screen when pulling the trigger.

Once that's done, any screen capture software with the second monitor set as source should make it easy to pull out the video/stills.

I'll try to poke around with it myself over the next few days and share the results if someone doesn't beat me to it.
