Kornskydiver Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 (edited) Hey fellas! I posted this in the Huey sub forum but this section would be a better fit! I have been looking for months on several simpit/home cockpit forums and I have yet to see anything related to building a Huey cockpit. Some basic measurements but nothing like the level of detail for the A10 module. There are dozens of free and paid plans, cad/cnc files available for the a10 but absolutely nothing for us rotor-heads :( so here is what I would like to do and I am open to any suggestions as their is more than one way to skin this cat! - I live right down the street from an air museum with a huey so I have the ability and luxury to take pictures and measurements of just about anything inside the cockpit. I can create/trace the template onto a poster with all the measurement but I would need some assistance of someone tech savvy enough to help build this into a cad file or some type of cnc file that we can take to our local workshops to get one cut out of T6 .060 aluminum. So what do you guys think? Do you think there would be enough interest? Edited August 15, 2016 by Kornskydiver [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
marques Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 I already answered you in the other post, although I agree this is a better place.
Kornskydiver Posted August 5, 2016 Author Posted August 5, 2016 I already answered you in the other post, although I agree this is a better place. I saw your message! I should be able to get dimensions of the seat, center console, pedal height and width, length/diameter of the collective and cyclic etc. I'm gonna give the museum a call and see what the best time would be for me to take some measurements and of course a ton of pictures. I have a set of digital calipers that should help me dial in some accurate measurements of the gauges and bezels. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
UH1Fan Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I checked with a laser cutting place a while ago and got a quote of about $65 to cut an instrument panel out of steel if I had a CAD file. I don't know how much aluminum costs but it would be a lot easier to work with. Now that Helios is available for the Huey this would be a great thing to proceed with.

T6 aluminum in .125 thickness is what they typically use! You can purchase the sheets online at aircraft spruce! I put this panel together in less than two hours with the rough measurements I took a while back. its a 1/8" piece of mdf I bought at home depot for $5 and a drill with a couple hole saw's. I just did it to get a feel of what it would look like running helios. Obviously there would be bezels, switches etc... but I think you guys get the general idea of what we are trying to achieve for now. Edited August 7, 2016 by Kornskydiver [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Kornskydiver Posted August 7, 2016 Author Posted August 7, 2016 That's not a bad start!! Thanks! What do you guys think about providing both a full size panel and a 2/3 panel (without copilot guages)? The instrument panel is 39" wide and some folks might not have that type of realstate in their desk or simpit. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hansangb Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 or maybe even smaller scale. I'm assuming lot of people don't have dedicated gaming PC and have to share the space with work/life. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
Kornskydiver Posted August 10, 2016 Author Posted August 10, 2016 (edited) Just a guick update gents! spent today taking measurements and over 300 pictures of the huey. Its going to take me a few days to consolidate the measurements but the great folks over at Lynx.dk will be creating the free templates for us as well as providing 3d printing services for our huey pits. SUPER STOKED!!!! Edited August 13, 2016 by Kornskydiver [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

simulatoregp Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Sorry about that m8 :) I removed it. You must not be sorry, there are people who deserve to share your work .... but these people are about 4 or maybe 5. Are those people who know the hard work to build something, like you, like me .... others sell in the forum only to copy the work of others, without writing even a simple "thank you for the idea."

hegykc Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Sure, I'll get in on this  Huey collective enclosure: If you can, measure it, looking from top down, So I can correct my model if needed. Also the main instrument panel, with instrument positions. I know the instrument dimensions themselves. And the central panels basic dimensions so I can get them to correct dzus-rail dimensions. I will be protoyping needle instruments soon, and stuff like artificial horizon after that. Everything I prototype is made to be manufactured and sold eventually, if you're ok with that. You get on the "money no good here" list of course. Someone else will have to tackle interfacing all of this with DCS-bios and DCS. www.replikagear.com

Kornskydiver Posted August 20, 2016 Author Posted August 20, 2016 (edited) Quick update Gents! After months of searching I finally found and purchased a instrument panel and glareshield! I had to donate a testicle for it :megalol:... but its going to allow us to make TRUE 1:1 accurate template for the community! It should be delivered within the next couple of weeks! The panel has obviously seen better days but I still haven't decided if I want to media blast and fresh powdercoat or just give it a good wash and to keep its original charm! which route do you think I should go with? Edited August 20, 2016 by Kornskydiver [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Hansolo Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Congratulations Sir  I would definetly go for water with a little vinegar in. That's what I have been using for my smaller panels and it works like a charm. Removes dirt yet keep some of the original old/used look. But it of cause depends on the condition.
