NaCH Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 When using the continues ECM filter mode on the radar the TDC strobes does not move. Looking at throttle I see the grip twisting but the TDC is fixes in the position that was previously.
portman Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 It's always been like that, and as far as I know, it's supposed to be like this. Mancher zum Meister sich erklärt, dem nie das Handwerk ward gelehrt!

Frederf Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Yes it's supposed to be this way. When in certain anti-ECM modes the throttle grip controls how the ECM filter works instead of the range gate. You should adjust the grip to get the best ECM filter picture before lock on.
NaCH Posted August 10, 2016 Author Posted August 10, 2016 It's always been like that, and as far as I know, it's supposed to be like this. This is not true prior the update and all previous version the strobes can be moved. There is no explanation in the manual that the TDC should be fixed. Can you please point me out that this is how it should operate ?
Hadwell Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 you've never been able to move the cursor thing while in continues, not ever, you can while you're IFFing though. According to the real mig21bis flight manual the range gates are in a fixed position. The rotator drum is then used to control the interferance setting. Thats the real world usage. The range gates are fixed at 18 km (upper) and 12 km (lower) Edited August 10, 2016 by thesystem DCS World, A10C, AV8B, M2k, FA18C, FC3, MIG21

Thanks, until the last patch I was able to move it. One question is there a section in the manual that explain the limitations of the radar?
Art-J Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Well, if You were able, that must've been a bug... ... on the other hand though, I recall the manual states clearly the TDC gate gets locked at 12/18 km when using continuous filter. Might not work like that when using passive and intermittent though, unless this info is buried somewhere deeper in the document and I don't remember it, so feel free to correct me If I'm wrong. It's all a moot point anyway, because simplified (not to say primitive) modelling of ECM in DCS in general, makes programming correct operation of filters kind of redundant, at least for now. I'd hazard a guess LN guys didn't put much effort in it for that reason. NaCH, I don't recall operation of radar filters being explained with great detail in LN manual. People here mostly refer to real MiG-21 manual, which floats around the net and can be googled out easily. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.

I was asking because it's seems there are 3 types of radars and an all three works different. Anyways thanks for the help an info everyone I think this thread can be closed.
