Procaff..... WHAT??

GOOD LORD i downloaded the program and looked all over the site where i downloaded it! how the heck do i get it to do what i want? as in put lock on on CPU-1? i looked all through the site and all i see it as jibberish code somthing about command prompt and something about probably giving me a headach. do i just click on it and it works? or am i way over my head due to my peuny technicly challenged brain :huh: and whats this synchronously stuff is there a possible instruction manual on the web for idiots as in me? because http://www.stefan-kuhr.de/procaff/main.php3 is really not making any sence to me at all! i try and click on what would be the procaf exe or something but it pops up in command prompt for about .1 seconds and dissapears. why does it do that.

hmm, the instructions were pretty good for me.

 

You right click on the Lockon icon on your desktop, properties. Under 'target' you add the command line it says.

 

so mine looks like:

D:\windows\procaff /run 1 D:\Lockon\Lockon.exe

 

I use the second core (1, 0 would be core 1) because prime95 shows its more stable. I am actually going through my startup and adding the procaff command to everything I can, to core 1 (0), so little if anything is actually running on core 2.

Could anyone please tell me why the hell do people need procaff for? I havw a dual core CPU. Lock On runs OK on my system. no probs or crashes. what benefit will I get from running LO on a single core? (I know - the game is not optimized for Dual cores) but what performence gian would it give me? and why?

A good way to mess up things imo. want Lo run on one cpu go into your task manager and deselect one cpu on lo, but no needs really at all.

 

Graywolf problem can be fix with the Nvtray and figure out the SLI problem. ( and use the 92.91 driver )

So the D:\windows\procaff is that where you have the file?????? or is that what i should put in. because if i were to put it in where i put in it would look like desktop\Games\procaff

or should i put it in my windows folder?

I dont know anything about dual cores but in your command line I think you have an incorrect slash...unless thats the slash you need to put in the command line. Try the above one instead.

ok i'm going to try the AMD fix BUT BUT if it does not work how do i get it to run through Hyperlobby because if i'm correct if you use Hyperlobby to open Lockon it wont work. so if there is a target path to do it is there an example of one? would like to know because this is the only problem i have it with is online play. in single player i dont notice it much. basicly how do i get it to work with HL.

If you use Procaff, assign affinity to Hyperlobby - it will open LO with the

same setup.

There is no need for Procaff if you use AMD dual core optimizer.

This is getting very confusing now could some one clarify ? Do you change the target line for just the lockon shortcut or just the hyperlobby or both?

 

Assuming that I have procaff in C:\Procaff what is the correct command line syntax exactly and where do I enter it? I have tried multiple times without success. When I try to enter the command line below into HL I get a runtime error. What am I doing wrong?

 

C:\procaff\procaff.exe /run 1 "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\lockon.exe"

 

I am not using an AMD rather an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600/

Glad I'm still using my ancient AMD Athlon 64 3400+ single super duper core CPU and don't have to worry about Procaff, duo this and duo that.....

create a shortcut for Hyperlobby, the "target" box, enter:

 

C:\WINDOWS\system32\procaff.exe /run 1 "C:\Program Files\HyperLobbyPro3\hlpro.exe"

(Edit the procaff location accordingly)

 

CPU affinity is inherited from parent processes... if one program starts a second program, that second program will inherit the first programs CPU affinity. So, when you fire up HL (on CPU 1), and it starts Lockon, the CPU stuff is done automatically, and Lockon will also be running on CPU 1.

 

If you ever want to fire up Lockon by itself (i.e without Hyperlobby), then create a shortcut for Lockon, and in the target box, enter:

 

C:\WINDOWS\system32\procaff.exe /run 1 "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\LOCKON.EXE"

(Edit the procaff location accordingly)

 

The reason why some people use procaff on dual core machines is that it *CAN* cause problems with online gameplay (stuttering)... not on all machines though.

Is it not better to dedicate one core to the sim and one to all else no matter if you have performance issues? Would there not be a perceptible performace gain?

I just did procaff to stop the network stutter... i didnt look at any other apps at the time :)

AH HAAAAA now thats an idea :thumbup: thanks guys the AMD fix is working way WAY beter than i anticipated i recomend if for everyone with a duel core to bypass all this technical stuff. sure use procaff to set everything else to the other processor if you wanna do that but i recomend the AMD fix.
