Ratfink Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 I'm thinking to replace my aged Palit GTX670 with a GTX1070, but which one should I go with? There's so many to choose! Can anyone recommend a particular make/model for use with DCS with a view to upgrading monitor to 1440p, and maybe dabbling with Oculus Rift one day ;) CORSAIR 5000D AIRFLOW Mid Tower | AMD RYZEN 7 9800X3D | G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo EXPO RGB 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 PC5-48000C30 6000MHz | ASUS ROG X870E-E GAMING WIFI | Gigabyte RTX5080 Gaming OC 16GB | 4TB Lexar NM790 M.2 PCIe 4.0 | Seasonic Prime TX-1000 1000W 80 Plus Titanium Modular Power Supply | Lian Li Galahad II Trinity AIO 360mm | Meta Quest Pro | TM HOTAS Warthog | Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals | Win 11 Home | Asus PG348Q 34" 3440x1440 Monitor | Bose Companion 3 2.1 Sound

dburne Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 I have been a big fan of EVGA for some time, they make great video cards. I have been using them since the Nvidia 200x series, and have never had a problem. Their 1070 FTW would be a very nice card. cichlidfan Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 My preferences lean toward Zotac and ASUS. Nothing concrete against the others, just two vendors that haven't let me down. firmek Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 Performance wise the difference between quality overclocked 1070 cards is almost negligible. For this reason I would just suggest one that will be the most optimized for the needs, looking into other aspects like the noise level, overlocking potential, LED lighting. My personal pick is Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 Gaming: + cooling system, heat pipes directly on GPU, passive with radiators being off unless active cooling is needed. Nothing special though as also other manufactures provide similar solutions. + single 6+2 pin power connector. Cards with 2*8 or 8+6 may have a better potential for manual overclocking but out of the box, on the factory overclocked settings will run the same. + it has an LED lightning but simpler than the other cards like Asus Strix - no need to pay additional money for fancy lighting if the card is mounted in closed box under the desk. + reasonable size, it's not the smallest one but for sure not the biggest which can be important as usually there is never enough space inside the computer chasis + just a personal preference but I've been using Gigabyte graphic cards and motherboards for many years without any issues. F/A-18, F-16, F-14, M-2000C, A-10C, AV-8B, AJS-37 Viggen, F-5E-3, F-86F, MiG-21bis, MiG-15bis, L-39 Albatros, C-101 Aviojet, P-51D, Spitfire LF Mk. IX, Bf 109 4-K, UH-1H, Mi-8, Ka-50, NTTR, Normandy, Persian Gulf... and not enough time to fully enjoy it all

Konovalov Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 If you don't need fancy features such as LED lighting just get the best priced you can get. If your case has good airflow then I would skip the blower style cards such as the founders edition. Also skip the mini ITX case type cards as their smaller size usually means much higher fan speed and more noise. My mate bought a Gigabyte GTX970 in one of these cut down variants and the fan spins up so high it sounds like a blender. I purchased recently a Gainward GTX1070 Phoenix Goes Like Hell Edition because it had a very high factory overclock with very good temps and very low fan noise. And it was 50-80 bucks cheaper here in Australia than any of them other slightly lower factory overclocked cards from Asus, MSI, Gigabyte or EVGA. Negatives of this card were it takes up 2.5 slots, LED implementation is poor and it isn't the nicest looking thing. For the price AUD 670 it was a no brainer. Big improvement over a 970. Normally I will skip a generation of cards between purchase but Pascal provided big gains in terms of speed and efficiency.
