504bigtonka
Just wondering if theres any need to switch it off since its passive... It also takes a while to warm up so if you like to use it its probably good to switch it on as part of your normal checklist, leave it on and forget about it... TBH Ive never found it of much use myself (though some T drivers swear by it...) The way I see it, if you dont see an IR SAM launch then youre stuffed.... as for IR AAM's, if youre being launched at your fighter cover aint doing its job properly :D BomberWing, VVS504 Red Hammers - http://www.vvs504.co.uk
GGTharos
Actually it gives you great coverage from the rear. You just have to remember that the cone is limited, but in general it will prevent IR missiles from hitting you if they're launched from +/- 50 deg off your rear. Pretty handly i'd say! now if you're flying over things pretty high and they're coming up straight at you, well .. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
504bigtonka
Hmm Ill start switching it on again and do some testing ;) Though call me old fashioned - I try my best to keep IR launchers anywhere but directly behind me... the ones i know about anyways!! :) BomberWing, VVS504 Red Hammers - http://www.vvs504.co.uk
bogusheadbox
I never knew it took time to warm up. I always activated it when i thought i was in a hot zone or saw a missile launch. I will activate it from engine start now i think and leave it on. See if i survive better. Those damned manpads are my worse nightmare !!!
ARM505
I think IRL it takes time to warm up, however it seems as if it's instant as it's modelled in LO now.
