Hi all,

After the latest Windows 10 anniversary update, my FPS dropped in half.

Can't get above 30 FPS no matter what.

I read about the Xbox App that records DVR - and I disabled it and even removed it all together.

It didn't help.

Latest Nvidia driver (GTX 1060) didn't help.

removing all mods and doing "Repair" to DCS - didn't help.

Rolling back to previous windows build - HELPED... FPS back to normal.

So for now I avoid this upgrade, but for long can I avoid it?....

Is there another solution to this problem besides the Xbox DVR issue??

Thanks!

Don't know if it is relevant, but I had a similar issue with Win 8.1 recently with my whole computer running real slow, even at the desktop, eventually found that with a recent nvidia driver update, it decided to put my monitors refresh rate from 60hz to 24hz, changed back to 60hz and all is good again.

Might just pay to check all of your video driver settings are still set the same way as you like them.

My experience with win 10 on my work laptop is so far negative.

Much slower.... but others seem to be happy with it.

Clean install win 7 on my gaming computer and I am happy.

HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled.

DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), DLSS setting is quality at 1.0. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC... Everything needs upgrading in this system!.

Vaicom user and what a superb freebie it is! Virpil Mongoose T50M3 base & Mongoose CM2 Grip (not set for dead stick), Virpil TCS collective with counterbalance kit (woof woof). Virpil Apache Grip (OMG). MFG pedals with damper upgrade. Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound... goodbye VRS.

My guess would be that Windows decided to replace a driver somewhere. I know that when I did the upgrade from Win 8.1 to Win 10, there were many issues which I resolved by doing a clean Win 10 install and then installing all of the appropriate drivers.

I did a Win7-->10 upgrade and have no issues ever since.

My tip, install an OLDER Nvidia driver as the newest ones seem to have an issue with DCS, I had like half the fps I used to have, reinstalled old driver and OLA..all fps were back.

Maybe yours is just as simple as mine to fix ;)

The addition of the Xbox interface seems to be where the issue is. If you go into the Xbox app settings then Game DVR settings and change the recording resolutions to High you can then get up to 60 FPS. It seems to be limited by the Xbox recording resolution. Not cool but is what it is...I haven't seen my system get up to 60 fps in vr yet anyway though...I was getting constant 30 FPS before this change. With just a quick check now I see FPS in the 50's except for the gazelle which was in the 20's....

Thank you all for your replies,

but as I wrote,

I have removed the Xbox app - which didn't help,

I did not install the Nvidia Geforce Experience in the first place,

After the upgrade I already had an older Nvidia driver, which showed low FPS , upgrading it to newer driver did not help.

Only rolling back from the Win10 upgrade - helped...

Still lost here.

For now I can hold the upgrade off until more info is found. please keep your ideas coming...

Thanks!

as a side note to 10:

When I havent used my system for a few days and boot it up it just hogs my CPU... for various tasks you cannot easily stop or change.

When I boot the PC and log in I open TaskManager and watch what my CPU does, if it does anything beyond 5-8% its noodeling something you better check before starting a game.

Yesterday I ran into a hidden scan from MS Malware, since that machines owns quite some TB of stuff this takes hours to finish. The CPU was somewhere between 25-35% constantly, HD activity as well, TM showed the MS process being in charge for this. The only thing that brought my machine back to 3% CPU was turn ON-ACCESS off in MS-Defender ( yes, I dont pay 3rd party AV anymore but use the included one for now). This is not what you wanna do but maybe have to if u cant wait for the scanner to finish 3TB data and wanna fly DCS.

Same applies to the old Win7-Backup included in 10 if you have it activated. If you miss the time it will autostart with no visible icon once you log in, caught me cold a few times, while playing I noticed/suspected Backup doing its job and striking some of my performance.

I am not happy with DCS's performance on my machine atm but I dont know whom to blame aka what to fix. Had 30 fps in the Su-25T yesterday on BF....thirty !! I left the server, did a few things I dont remember ( maybe close all stupid apps and shut down On-Access etc..) and had 50 fps which still is somewhat underworld performance as I used to get a 3digit fps # when in the Su25T.

I am holding off with fine tuning until the merge as I have no time to fly a lot anyway.

Hopefully till then performance is more easy to reproduce on systems across the board and 1.5.x is a thing of the past. I dont expect and ED to optimize the code for speed in 1.5.x anymore, and I also want them to focus on the merge so we get over this hill ;)

Right now I basically get half the fps I used to have, anyway, too lil time at hand to fix it.

Have you removed all the other bloatware that is discussed in the link i provided you?

Only the Xbox app.

Is there any other relevant app there to remove?

or we're taking a 'scorched earth' approach :smilewink:

Just read these 2 articles and decide for yourself what you want to do with it.

Windows 10 collecting :

http://beebom.com/disable-data-logging-in-windows-10/

Windows 10 tracking :

http://beebom.com/disable-windows-10-tracking/

For the apps use this link a bit easier to read then the previous one.

https://www.techsupportall.com/uninstall-built-apps-windows-10/

I say again its up to you what you do with it but personally my windows 10 is as free as possible from these collecting and sharing trash things running in the background making your computer slower. I dont say it will gonna help you get better performance in DCS but its worth a try in my opinion.

By the way its all on own risk....

Thanks Mainstay,

For now I will avoid the upgrade again (if it's not broken - I won't try to fix it ...)

and stay with the old build until Microsoft will force shove it. hopefully it will be fixed by then.

Will try your suggestions if it happens afterwards again.

Cheers!
