Battlecry Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 I'm considering picking up the NTTR terrain while its on sale but have some concerns regarding performance with 8 gigabtyes of memory. My system specs are as follows: i5 4670k, 8GB 1866 DDR3, GTX 970, Windows 10 Pro running off an SSD. I'll mainly be playing FC3 aircraft on the NTTR map and want to know if I will get a consistent, smooth gameplay experience with my system. My main concern is whether or not 8 gigs will be enough to provide a smooth experience. Any feedback and suggestions from users running DCS 2.0 on both 8 and 16 gigs of RAM would be appreciated. | Windows 10 Pro | MSI Z87-G43 | 4670k @4Ghz|MSI GTX 970| 8GB G.Skill 1866|Crucial mx200 |Razer Taipan| Razer Deathstalker | Saitek X52 | | Lock On: FC2 | Flaming Cliffs 3 | DCS: A-10C | DCS: BS2 | DCS: P-51D| DCS: MiG-21
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted October 23, 2016 ED Team Posted October 23, 2016 Minimum system requirements: OS 64-bit Windows 7/8/10; DirectX11; CPU: Core i3; RAM: 8 GB; Free hard disk space: 30 GB; Video: 2 GB RAM card, DirectX11 - compatible; requires internet activation. Recommended system requirements: OS 64-bit Windows 7/8/10; DirectX11; CPU: Core i5+; RAM: 16GB; Hard disk space: 30 GB; Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX780 / ATI R9 290 DirectX11 or better; Joystick; requires internet activation. 8 GB RAM is minimum for DCS but you will be fine, if you intend to do Multiplayer you would benefit from using 16GB but it is not essential. Art-J Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 (edited) 2.0 is noticeably more RAM and VRAM hungry than 1.5. I used to suffer badly from constant data swapping (resulting in stutters) between RAM and HDD when I ran the NTTR on an 8 GB config, even though I'm offline player only. True, it was a platter drive, but still. Switching to SSD+16 GB pretty much solved the issue. Go and make an upgrade, RAM is dirt cheap nowadays (well, relatively, compared to other components that is) and You will need it anyway for updated, thus more resource-heavy, 2.5 Caucasus map. Rest of Your system is OK - search for Robin Takolander's vids on youtube and see how well NTTR runs on his config, which is similar to Yours, but with 16 gigs of RAM. VTJS17_Fire Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 I have a similar setup (same CPU, 1666 MHz RAM, R9 380x), but using 16GB RAM. I have a better performance in 2.0, than in 1.5. I think, the SSD is here more important for performance. I suggest: Try it with your setup and if you have stutters, buy 8GB extra RAM (if you have the money), they are cheap at the moment. cichlidfan Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 My newest build has 32GB, just to allow DCS to grow into it. If your Mobo and wallet can handle it then go for it.
