dooom Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 ... there is about a 200-300$ price difference between the 1080 and 1070 in canada... I'm ok to spend the money but will happily save$$$ if the benefit is minimal. thanks for the honesty ASUS Tuf Gaming Pro x570 / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @ 3.8 / XFX Radeon 6900 XT / 64 GB DDR4 3200 "This was not in the Manual I did not read", cried the Noob" - BMBM, WWIIOL
razo+r Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 It's not about overkill for the Motherboard, it's about overkill for CPU, so, which CPU do you have?

dooom Posted November 25, 2016 Author Posted November 25, 2016 yeah - i understand the 1080 will work with the mobo and the CPU but I guess Im looking for any opinions whether the extra cost is worth it. thoughts? razo+r Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 just that you know: A GTX 1070 is more or less as good as a GTX 980 Ti from the performance, but has better efficiency, but 980 Ti (depends on your location) is cheaper, and still good GTX 1080 is very strong, but not that cheap, also, 1080 is fine and nice for nnowadays a lot of games on either 144 hz or 4k, but maybe wait a bit until they release the 1080 Ti if this one is in your budget Here a benchmark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-kA-SB5CGc
joey45 Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 What card do you have now? The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Hadwell Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 no the 1080 isn't overkill for a 2600K at 4.4ghz, I run it at 4.6ghz. there are only a half a dozen games out there that make the cpu bottleneck, but those games bottleneck all cpus...
