Pretty in Pink

FR Mk.IXc of No. 16 Sqn, RAF.

 

Nationality Marking I on fuselage and upper wings were 30" diameter, with 12" fin flash. All over PRU pink. D-Day markings consisted only of the black segments, on lower fuselage.

 

Obviously W.I.P... just playing around right now while we wait for a template. After the template is released prepare for the deluge of RCAF Spits... as this is always a popular aircraft with skinners I think I'll stick to Canuck schemes for now. ;)

:) Polish Fighting team skin would be easy enough, until the template's out there's already a Desert Air Force 145 Sqn skin as one of the default skins

Can You do, please if You got time over in the future (it's essentially yor blue skin with Swedish markings) the Swedish recce-Spitfire skin, that blue thats on the book On Target, Profiles 8 which is on the bookpicture above. Sweden flew coldwar-recce in these Spitfires all in to Russias northwestern part i have read in the forum.

I can certainly do a Swedish S.31 skin, a Mk.XIV Spit is in the works as well, which would be a closer stand in for the Mk.19 but in the meantime I can do a PRU skin for the Mk. IXc. I don't know anything about Swedish Spitfires so this should be interesting :)

I can release the pink scheme if you like but it will be pretty light on detail as we have no official template yet. I learned the hard way with the F-86 that skinning a beta means lots of changes and many skin updates...

Just want to add my pathetic pleading for you to release a preliminary for the Swedish & PR skins.....they are really interesting and original :worthy:

 

Nearly everything in DCS requires updating so, even if you feel its not up to your standard jocko, there are a lot of us out there who have less talent, lower standards and would be very happy to see a linky thingy.

Camera Ports

 

Wasn't happy with the camera ports on the Swedish Spit so W.I.P...

 

 

Still not 100% happy but at least it looks like a camera behind the window.

Ok, just about done. Ended up putting a lot more detail into this one than originally planned. Played with the Normal Map to get the camera window in the fuselage door to look slightly sunken, as the real ones did:

No. 16 Sqn, RAF flew low level photo recon missions using the FR Mk.IXc.

 

Added some cordite stains so it looks the FR business :D

 

No serials, but added white code letters so you dress it any way you want. Aircraft had a single code letter aft of the roundel on each side.

 

 

 

 

Aircraft showed evidence of underside invasion stripes having been removed.

 

 

Playing with the pink to match the correct shade, most digital samples are far too dark (Pepto Bismol). Like this monstrosity:

 

 

Real deal, France, late summer 1944:

 

 

A few more tweaks and it should be good to go.

Ok, about done. Will probably leave off the walkway edge stripes, very difficult to find photo evidence of them on PRU Spits, at least the lighter coloured ones.
