Mad Jack McMad Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Hello All, Hope this finds you well. I was just wondering whether anyone could give me some advice regarding an issue I'm having with the Spitfire. Specifically, the engine seems to smoke up and cut out roughly a minute into takeoff. Having read a few forum threads I could find on warbirds I've ensured that my RPM is set below 3000 and my radiator is set to auto. I'm not sure what else to try. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. With best wishes, Jack
razo+r Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 In the mnual is a table of the engine operation limits, search for that also make sure you don't overheat, in addition, but Boost according to the table at +7 1
IzoAzlion Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 You're running the engine too hard, especially from cold at low air speeds. 1
Sokol1_br Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Your Propeller Pitch lever are not in rear position? Climb in steep angle - so with low speed, at full throttle can result in overheat. 1
Mad Jack McMad Posted December 30, 2016 Author Posted December 30, 2016 Thank you all for the replies! I've been working my way through Chuck's invaluable Spitfire guide but haven't finished yet (or glanced at the official manual). I will implement your suggestions. Cheers once again for your time.
Art-J Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 (edited) If the update 5 bug reported in another thread today (radiators not opening in auto mode) is confirmed (haven't test flown myself yet), then we might have an answer. Edit: - nah, just tested, they do work allright, so I'd say OP probably mishadles the engine somehow :D. It looks like I was pushing the engine too hard at takeoff. After easing off the throttle a bit it now gets up in the air beautifully. Thanks again to all the suggestions/help.
