How are the trim controls in FC supposed to be operated? Am I supposed to press and hold the trim keys until the aircraft trims out, or are they supposed to work by pressing and releasing, pressing and releasing, until trim is achieved?

Thanks in advance...

You can do it either way. Hold the button down or click it one step at a time. Be aware that the Su-25/T aircraft have no "reset trim" commands....you have to do it manually.

I got trim on buttons and also on axxis controls. Depends on the situation which is more useful. If it has to be done fast i use the rotator-axxis if there is more time and it got to be more precise i do the fine-tuning by the buttons.

Lockon, and before it the entire Flanker series, has been my favorite for years. I have had to cut way back on my sim time for a while now and so haven't really spent any time in Flaming Cliffs.

I'm fortunate to have time now though, and so I've fired Lockon up with the hopes of enjoying a bit of flying. It is not to be.

I cannot get the Su27 to behave. I've read many comments on the autopilot and trim systems in FC, but most of those comments and posts deal wiith the Su25 and Su25T. I don't know how the systems on the Su27 are supposed to work; that is my aircraft of choice.

I don't ever remember having this much trouble before. Now, whenever I start a flight (I'm in v1.12a), in the air or on the ground, the roll and yaw neutral trim indicators are lit, indicating neutral trim on those two axes. There doesn't seem to be a way to get neutral trim in the pitch axis. I've tried maintaining speed, sometimes trying slow and sometimes trying fast, but when I use the 'CTL-period' or 'CTL-semicolon' keys there doesn't appear to be any affect on the pitch trim, whether I hold the keys or repeatedly press them.

The autopilot works, horizontal stabilization and auto-throttle as well, but when those are disengaged I porpoise through the air so badly while trying to manually trim that the flying is ruined. Is it that my X52 is too sensitive? What can be done to cause the neutral pitch trim indicator to light up?

It would be so helpful if someone who had experience, someone accomplished, would address through a tutorial the obvious learning curve required to trim these birds so that other like me could effectively train and get to a place where they could enjoy Lockon.

I am so lost: someone help!

While flying have a look and make sure Alt hold is off 1st, if so then try this;

Goto; C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\Config

Open the producer.cfg file and change;

ForceFeedbackEnabled = true;

To

ForceFeedbackEnabled = false;

Exactly like I have written it with no caps.

The 27 is no different than the other aircraft.

It sounds to me that you are trying to fly with "Altitude Hold" engaged (key "H"). If you try to manouver with it turned on then you will porpoise as the aircraft tries to maintain altitude while you fight against it with the stick.

Make sure Alt Hold (H) is off, then reset the trimmers (Ctrl-T), the trim-neutral light should then light up and you're good to go.

Press H key then press again. Trim sorted. Do the same on SU25T.

DrafTech,

I left this for you over at SimHQ:

FYI, while the top trim light will be dark when you enter the cockpit in the air, it should be lit when you enter the cockpit on the ground. If it's not, there is something very wrong. Does pressing CTRL-T (trim reset) give you three green?

Unplug your joystick and start the sim. Enter the cockpit on the ground. If all three lights aren't lit, you have a botched installation. If the problem only exists with the joystick plugged in, the joystick is the likely culprit.

One last thing to add:

Lock On's in game programming allows you to trim via rotary dial on the X-52 or by using the button combinations to fine tune - as has been mentioned by JaboG32_Laud. Check your axis trim settings within the game programming to comfirm there is no conflict, i.e., trim axis is not set opposite the button commands. You will need to check both the keyboard inputs and the X-52 axis settings within options. Hopefully, this will sort your problem.

If you do utilize axis trim within game, also verify that your rotary settings within the Saitek programming feature are properly configured. Other than that, make sure the rotary dial remains in the neutral position (centered) before you attempt to use the keyboard trim. A slight deadzone in the center area of the Saitek program may assist you in this. You can set that in control panel (game controllers), or by right clicking the little Saitek icon.

DrafTech,

It is my experience that upon entering any jet already airborne or after turning off Autopilot, you need to reset trim Ctrl T (for every jet except Su25T).

Failure to do this will have you fighting your jet for control. The other thing to do for the fast movers is go into Options/Input and select your Saitek from the Devices dropdown, select the axis toggle and then fine tune the axis response for Joystick X and Y. By default they are quite linear, ie a straight diagonal line. I have put a S curve in mine both X and Y to give me a relative flat spot in the central position, so that it requires more aggressive stick movement around the central zones and increases in intensity/reaction, the more I pull. What this means in flight is that your stick is nowhere near as reactive when you are looking to make fine tune adjustments to your pitch and roll and you should find that you are able to enjoy a more stable flight.

Image How to Set Roll Axis

Image How to Set Throttle Axis

The last one for throttle is where I have tried to soften the input around the central zone as well as try and align the min and max with the Idle and AB detents on my Cougar.

For myself and many mates, we have all experienced the dreaded porpoising and found this to be the easiest way to soften it. You should find close formation flying a lot easier now and of course once merged you still have all the maneuverability available with full stick deflection. And once you get used to this, prepare to trim your jet out frequently anyway as its a fact of life with these airframes, just remember your friend is Ctrl T when it all gets too much.

I have only just started messing with the Su25T and its a whole different kettle of fish, the manual suggests going with a more linear curve, and after having tried it, I can understand why.

Now my question is with the Su25T is if I have engaged one of the many different AP modes available here, is there a sure fire way to disengage all and reset trim? Half the time I am not sure whether I still ahve some form of AP engaged or not, its such a handful at the best of times, the last thing I need is some AP fighting my inputs.
