Polish Air Force commanders were waiting today in Krzesiny AFB (Poland) for pair of new f-16... and they haven't come . The refueling system defected in both over the Atlantic Ocean and they must turn back. Good start of duty beginning :).

I'll try to bring some photos from the day of their arrival to homebase - Poznan-Krzesiny.

Hope it will still happen on thursday.

Whose pilots made the trip? (and had a sore @ss) USAF, LM or PLAF?

Trip was canceled for a day because it happened that on both planes mid-air refueling system (don't know tech details) malfunctioned.

US pilots are bringing these planes to Poland, since none of our freshmeat pilots is qualified to do aerial refuels.

USAF or LM (if you mean Lockheed artin).

They took off today again... and had to landed on Island.

"Failures" - that's the official statement.

Man... I need to change my sig again

Why, oh why we didn't buy the Gripen....?

Cuz it's not a good idea to by a prototype planes. (full of bugs :D)

Ask our Czech friends how many problems they have with these planes.

Anyway afik Grippen does use F-16 licensed engine?

Maybe F-16 are horribly ugly but are well proven aircrafts, both in peace time and in real combat scenarios. I'm sure block 52+ will work ok for us.

Man, tose pilots will have to bear a living hell in there for so long, ouch. Heck, If I was shut in, in such small cockpit, I would either sleep, or go completely mad from claustrophobia :P Oh well, at least they have a good view to counter that drowzyness, and took probably some amphetamines as involuntary test subjest (you know, "You can either take the pills and fly, or go home for 2 months."). :/

They still keeping flying. Landing on Krzesiny AFB is planed past 15.00 today. Shaman! Do You have the pass for it? If so, could you take a camera with you, please? It would be nice to take some pictures.

It's only a Viper, not a Raptor. Heh heh, some Battlestar talk :p But it's better than rusty su-22s, mig-21s and mig-29a

The F-16 is a nice workhorse, but it doesn't excel in any of its multirole functions, but it's better than buying less, more expensive jets.

Yeah indeed FF. I know but for us here is a little bit rare. Also its camo is unique and those bigger fuel tanks on fuselage (in block 52+). Some of you guys for sure haven't ever seen a MiG-21. For me it's boring but I haven't seen F-16 in real life yet. That's the way it is. You know that FF.

Cheers! Roll up something for me too ;)

EDIT: But don't know if it has that bigger fuel tanks on the fuselage already. Look at my sig. This hasn't got any.

Wow, that has been the most understanding post ever, thanks. I've only seen mig-21s in museums :(, same for the mig-29, and su-22. I did see the F-16MLU, F-18C, Tornado GR3, and the Sea Harrier Gr7 or something in real life, and flying :p the tornado, harrier and F-18C are damn loud, the F-16 is just very loud (still hurts your ears a bit)

And the f-18 gave the most impressive display, and the f-16 seems sluggish, but that's because the airshow routine is that way, I've seen F-16bs with two droptanks many could consider 'EJECT, eject, eject while you can!' things, too bad I had no camera and was swimming then :p

I'll be there (Poznan-Krzesiny 31st Airbase - ICAO: EPKS ) on Thursday.

AFIK, two should land in EPKS today, and be ready for display on official naming day which is Thursday. And during the ceremony additional two will arrive (for now they'll stay in Germany until called to arrive for ceremony).

Polish F-16 will be named "Jastrząb" which means simply Polish for Hawk

Well,I think Polish Air Force should have choosen an F-15E Strike Eagle instead.Really multi-role,and AWESOME aircraft.F-15 rules forever,it's flying legend that just needs thrust-vectoring.:)

Boeing did put up F/A-18, but soon back it off, and we end up with 3 jets to chose from:

- Mirage 2000-5 (ridiculously expensive)

- F-16C/D Block52

- JAS-39 C/D Gripen (close range, not enough payload, old armament and no SEAD mission capability, and not flying at that time)

The F-15E (probably would be called F-15P ;) ) would be way to expensive to buy and maintain, and is to darn heavy to be a good fighter, and we will need those after 2012, when our MiGs will go to scrap yard.

The Viper was the best choice made, now we only need to buy more of them, and buy some weaponry which we didn’t get with the planes. I’m talking about HARMs, SDBs and RBS-15. Some long range A-A missile will be good to (like Meteors, or FMRAAMs)

The F-16 is not planned to have meteors, for their radars cant cover the range of those missiles anyway. AMRAAM's are more probable.

My country bought packages of 10 missiles each month last year.

Current planes expected to have the meteor are:

JAS-39 Gripen

Rafale

Eurofighter

F-35 C

oh, you should know the radar range is the smallest issue with long range missiles – not all engagements are head-on you know ;)

Anyway… what do you mean the F-16 is not planed to have Meteors ? Nobody asked for them to be on that machine! If we’ll ask for them, and pay – we’ll get it ;)

Second thing - the JAS-39 PS-05/A radar have smaller range than AN/APG-68 V(5) on USAF F-16. And we are getting newest AN/APG-68 V(9) ;)
