aileron Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Would like to see a license key system where when you buy a map you get two keys... the normal one that allows you to play the game with the map and another key that is strictly for server side hosting. The server key won't allow you to play the game but it can load missions and serve them up.
PicksKing Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 This would make a lot thing easier for server hosts but I guess this also would make the copy protected stuff more vulnerable for piracy. WHOGX5 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 +1 It's worth noting that this wouldn't be an issue if we got dedicated servers. Just putting it out there..... :D -Col. If we had dedicated servers the server could host any game without having modules installed. Now we just have to wait for them to be implemented. DCS Finland | SF squadron
Drexx Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Starforce key system will not allow us to host in VM's though, I tried recently with Nevada... Thread I started yesterday with this big issue: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=183227 Developer of DDCS MP Engine, dynamicdcs.com https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=208608
Home Fries Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 I like the idea, but extend it to mission building as well. A person won't be able to build and test a mission from scratch, but he can make edits, especially if he's hosting the session. -Home Fries My DCS Files and Skins My DCS TARGET Profile for Cougar or Warthog and MFDs F-14B LANTIRN Guide
MikeMikeJuliet Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 So in other words the system with new maps should work as it does now with any aircraft module... if you don't own it you can still put it in the map. you just can't fly it yourself. I have a feeling this will be the case for maps as well. At the moment the issue is that 2.0. version is behind the NTTR paywall, but that is an alpha build. Once all maps are under one .exe I bet you can change the map in the editor and edit missions on it... DCS Finland | SF squadron
shaunwallis21 Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 ED what the heck? this VM poblem is very bad. you guys have multiple Customers Buying Extra Nevada Keys to host on virtual machines and then they waste the money because it cant be done. I can understand if you guys are too busy to respond to this . but this needs a answer else everyone thinks you guys don't care about this issue. and people need to know if it is a priority to fix this issue else i personally think the server Owners should get compensated the money back unless you have a disclaimer somewhere saying VM servers dont work. I Doubt that there is a disclaimer like that.
Axion Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 Dedicated servers? Wasn't that on ED's to do list.... 5 years ago!? ;) It may have not been 5 years ago but it was definitely more than 5 months ago. Or maybe I'm getting confused with multi - GPU support or realistic missile dynamics? *shrug* Either way, I am in total agreement that the OP proposes a perfectly reasonable request.
