My father-in-law was born in 1909. When WWII started, he headed to the Bell factory and got a deferment because he was working for a defense plant and usually working double shifts. His whole time there was as a setup man in the wing fabrication department with women doing the work. Every P-39 built was painted with the Russian star paint scheme.
