Bell Aircraft in Buffalo, NY USA

Recommended Posts

See photo 2 of the slide show of the P-39 assembly line.

My father-in-law was born in 1909. When WWII started, he headed to the Bell factory and got a deferment because he was working for a defense plant and usually working double shifts. His whole time there was as a setup man in the wing fabrication department with women doing the work. Every P-39 built was painted with the Russian star paint scheme.

Never knew where the plant was located, so did a search this morning.

Read the 1st paragraph to get a feel how big this plant was. (Not interested in the asbestos side of the story; I've worked with it, too...)

"Yeah, and though I work in the valley of Death, I will fear no Evil. For where there is one, there is always three. I preparest my aircraft to receive the Iron that will be delivered in the presence of my enemies. Thy ALCM and JDAM they comfort me. Power was given unto the aircrew to make peace upon the world by way of the sword. And when the call went out, Behold the "Sword of Stealth". And his name was Death. And Hell followed him. For the day of wrath has come and no mercy shall be given."
