Fish
Just read through several 'threads' (pardon the pun), which concluded multiple cpu cores and threads do little or nothing for DCS. just thought id post my findings when i looked at the benchmarks for single threaded performance. I have a 2700k cpu overclocked @ 4.4gHz, and was thinking of upgrading, but from the results below there's not enough benefit for single thread performance. I brought the Passmark results down to 'per GHz' for each chip, and surprise surprise, the pass mark per clock cycle is pretty much the same for all the chips (within 10%). Throw in typical overclocking, and you get a max difference of maybe 20%. Certainly not enough on its own to justify an upgrade with all it entails. But if you are building, then the 7600k is the one, especially at the price! 2700k pass/Ghz 574 (OC@4.4gHz pass 2530), pass @ stock 3.5gHz 2010 6700k pass/Ghz 588 (OC@4.8gHz pass 2820), pass @ stock 4.0gHz 2352 7600k pass/Ghz 633 (OC@4.8gHz pass 3040), pass @ stock 3.8gHz 2405 7700k pass/Ghz 617 (OC@4.8gHz pass 2960), pass @ stock 4.2gHz 2591 Fish's Flight Sim Videos [sIGPIC]I13700k, RTX4090, 32gb ram @ 3200, superUltraWide 5120x1440, 2560x1440, 1920x1080, Warthog, Tusba TQS, Reverb VR1000, Pico 4, Wifi6 router, 360/36 internet[/sIGPIC]
Automan
If you have the 2700K LGA 1155, to upgrade to 7600k you should change the mobo too since it's using LGA 1151. I would wait june for the affordable i7-7740K kabylake-x with LGA2066 socket and X299 chipset.Based clock of 4.2ghz, turbo @4,5ghz, Quad core, 8 threads Best of the best (for intel Platform) will be the announched Skylake-X with 12 Core... but the launch price may kill you...1500$ Now that Ryzen is out and sell well, really hope that the AMD/Intel war will lower the price of intel CPU... =DECOY=
don't forget the new Gen CPU also require DDR4 ram, so you would need this as well as a new motherboard. Water cooled i9-9900K | Maximus Code XI MB | RTX3090 | 64GB | HP Reverb G2
*Rage*
I doubt you would see a significant difference. in DCS, clock for clock the FPS difference between a 2600k and 7700k is about 15%. Hardly worth the £800 or so it would take to do a full rebuild (CPU/RAM/MOBO). I doubt Ryzen is any different. I can't see why anyone would need to upgrade still from an overclocked Sandy bridge if you're not a multithreading monster. BitMaster
I would rather invest in some proper cooling and OC that CPU towards 5G as long as you an. My old 2600k was good enough and if it hadnt died I would most likely still run it since all the new parts needed were over 800€ w/o vat tax. I like the 7700k, and yes it is faster, has tons of more features on the board etc..but you need easy money to justify that. Hard earned money...NO ! Mine was hard earned and it better performs like a charm to not upset me after all the expense  Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Asus 1080ti EK-waterblock - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus PG278Q 27" QHD Gsync 144Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
AnkH_82
Well, you say that it is not worth the upgrade due to the rather low performance increase of 15% but you recommend to increase the OC from 4.4 to 5.0GHz, which is exactly the same range (14% increase), yet not every 2700K is capable of running at 5.0GHz and the so called "proper cooling" would basically mean a custom water cooling solution which is A) not that easy to install and B) not that cheap. *Rage*
4.5ghz is plenty. I think there would be little difference between 4.5 and 5ghz except heat and instability. The way the game is coded results in a law of dimishing returns with higher grade hardware. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=157374 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 64th "Scorpions" Aggressor Squadron Discord: 64th Aggressor Squadron TS: 195.201.110.
BitMaster
What I ment is, IF you seek 10-15% more power, try to OC it further as you have good chances getting there. May or may not be worth doing it. What the Z270-7700k has when coupled with fast RAM is a very low latency in RAM, which helps VR ( according to other guys running VR, I dont ) but I can say I enjoy it, I really do. If that speed is needed depends on your GPU. If your CPU can shuffle 10% more you CAN gain more FPS and smoothenss if the rest of the rig can also pull some more. I saw the difference on my Sandy when at 3.4/3.8-->4.2-->4.8 and 5.0G. Each step up gave more fps ( sure, MORE heat as well ) Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Asus 1080ti EK-waterblock - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus PG278Q 27" QHD Gsync 144Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
