zero Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 (edited) Last night: For no apparent reason N44 - crashed. Takes extremely long time to load. Instant stutters last 10 seconds, getting worse and freeze. Ctr/alt/del to get out, or low memory warning. Have manually removed my miz mission files. Did not help. Nevada runs OK -have not tested before (no compare). Seems OK with just a slight stutter. But long load. World 1.5 runs fine! :helpsmilie: Edited May 31, 2017 by zero

ED Team BIGNEWY Posted May 30, 2017 ED Team Posted May 30, 2017 Hi Ensure all device drivers are up to date, and a fresh graphics card driver install will give you the best chance Only having 4gb RAM is probably the underlying issue here DCS: CPU cores: 2, threads: 2, System RAM: 4094 MB Minimum system requirements: OS 64-bit Windows 7/8/10; DirectX11; CPU: Core i3; RAM: 8 GB; Free hard disk space: 30 GB; Video: 2 GB RAM card, DirectX11 - compatible; requires internet activation. Recommended system requirements: OS 64-bit Windows 7/8/10; DirectX11; CPU: Core i5+; RAM: 16GB; Hard disk space: 30 GB; Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX780 / ATI R9 290 DirectX11 or better; Joystick; requires internet activation. zero Posted May 30, 2017 Author Posted May 30, 2017 It did run fine until yesterday. Something happened suddenly. I can throw in more ram
cthulhu68 Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 BTW. Always imagined PC uses SSD HD as ram? It does but pulling memory off a hard drive, even an SSD, is slower.
rss0900 Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 I'm having the same issues sometimes it crashes other times it just freezes up. 16gb of RAM here FPS is good but the crashing and freezing pretty constant.
zero Posted May 31, 2017 Author Posted May 31, 2017 Low ram is just a part of the problem. Been running on this rig A10 and Black Shark for hundreds of hours. A load of stuff running in the background - such as Maverick camera to mention one. Not single stop or stutter. Nevada is OK with the large airport - must have some impact on graphics? Normandy44 was OK for a period (Low memory 30 minutes on multiplayer) Ran fine with created mission of 30 tanks moving and cold start TO. Rockets fired with no stutter. Then one night - Bang! N44 crash. No doubt N44 needs troubleshooting and debugging.
zero Posted May 31, 2017 Author Posted May 31, 2017 FIX: (Thanks to a different thread) Rename openalpha folder (saved games) Start sim. Exit sim. Move input folder to the new created openalpha folder. (your saved inputs. Then I restarted PC. Some ordinary tweaks in graphic menu. Now N44 is running fine again. Guess this is just temporary - must repeat this procedure in the future when N44 going bad again.
OnlyforDCS Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Still doesn't change the fact that you are running below minimum specs. DCS World requires 8 GB of minimum ram. Even if you do manage to get it to run on less, support won't be able to help you unless you at least meet minimum requirements. Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.
zero Posted May 31, 2017 Author Posted May 31, 2017 Meant as a tip to other players with similar problem (with good specs)
zero Posted May 31, 2017 Author Posted May 31, 2017 Sorry I missed the new specs. Copy from my first A10C manual - As you can see my PC was at top end. Never checked it again. Minimum system requirements: Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7; CPU P4 3GHz, RAM 2 GB; Video 512MB RAM, compatible with DirectX9; 9GB of HDD space; sound card; DVD ROM; keyboard; mouse. Recommended system requirements: Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7; CPU Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD X2 3GHz, RAM 4 GB; Video Card with 1024 MB RAM (ATI Radeon HD4870+ or nVidia GTX260+), compatible with DirectX9; 9GB of HDD space; sound card; DVD ROM; keyboard; mouse, joystick.

Does upgrading to 16 make a big difference? GeForce GTX 970, i5 4690K 3.5 GHz, 8 GB ram, Win 10, 1080p
zero Posted May 31, 2017 Author Posted May 31, 2017 Sorry - BIGNEWY. Have to disagree that DCS has elvolved. No doubt A10 is the benchmark. 95% systems simulated. Physic damage model. If a panel was lost, you can feel it. Now an aileron can be lost without problem. And jaw dropping fact: This could run on 2 gb ram. Today you need 8 gb to fly a simple Mustang. Those guys back then was wizards.
gavagai Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Somehow I have missed that 8gb is the minimum, I have 8. Does upgrading to 16 make a big difference? I barely noticed the difference. The one difference I could observe was in loading multiplayer maps. The more complicated maps would seem to hang forever on loading with 8gb. cthulhu68 Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Sorry - BIGNEWY. Have to disagree that DCS has elvolved. . Yes the modules are pretty much the same but what has evolved is terrain detail, object detail, Water effects, lighting, etc. ...

Upgrade card will help. I am also flying on P3Dv2. This have the old M$ design with most graphics is handled in the old fashioned way through processor.

Thanks, this worked for me, I was having the same problem with freezing that you were on the Normandy map but not on the Nevada map. Low ram was not the case. I'm running win10/i7/24Gb/GTX1070
