dburne Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 Yes, and I've also tested in areas where it's just desert and the freeze still happens. One time it happened while landing at Creech which caused me to crash the AC. Wow , you got me stumped on that one. Very strange... dburne Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 (edited) Couple other things: When you installed the new drivers clean for the 1080, did you also uninstall Precision OCX at the same time and then install Precision OCX clean as well after installing the new drivers? Did you install any programs recently around the same time as you put in the new card? What AV program are you running, and do you have an exception set for it for DCS? I use just the Defender in Windows 10, and have all the folders/files in my DCS directory set to exclude from AV scans. Also have you tried setting the DCS.exe to " Run as Administrator"? toutenglisse Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 Hi pimp, your problem looks like a driver problem. The issue occure in DCS, a dx11 software, but not in Watch dogs 2, dx12 software if I'm right. This weird gpu behavior looks like issue that some older nvidia drivers had some months ago. So, a silly question : did you install drivers that are on your graphic card's dvd or latest drivers on nvidia website (it's not precized in your posts).

Hi DB, thanks for your time. I uninstalled Precision before I uninstalled the drivers. However, after installing Precision again, I noticed my previous profile was still there. So maybe it wasn't a clean uninstall. But I don't see the issue with that since the only reason I installed Precision was to monitor/manage my GPU to see what could cause my issue. Also, I do not have any AV software on my PC and yes, DCS is set to run as admin. i9 14900k @5.6GHz NZXT Kraken |Asus ROG Strix Z790 A-Gaming | Samsung NVMe m.2 990 Pro 2TB | 64GB DDR5 6400MHz EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra | PiMAX CRYSTAL LIGHT | HOTAS Warthog | Saitek Flight Pedals

I think everyone that's having this issue and me really hope it's as simple as a driver issue and will be fixed asap. I never used the drivers on the disc. I just tried that. I restarted with just my keyboard and mouse connected but unfortunately the freeze happened. The usage dropped to 0% about 2 mins into flying. Thanks though. I'm about to test 1.5. Demon_ Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 (edited) Wait a minute. What is the power supply? Cooler Master GX 750w? It's a tier 4: Not Recommend for stressful situations. May not be able to put out full rated power above room temperature, and may slightly fail to meet ATX specs :) Edited July 1, 2017 by Demon_ Attache ta tuque avec d'la broche.
Demon_ Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 Tier 4 units may have some problems, such as being unable to deliver rated power at higher temperatures, or being slightly out of ATX spec on power output quality. Not recommended to buy except in situations where you will not be stressing it, or expecting it to last for more than a few years. If you have one, you can probably keep using it unless you're experiencing problems. Attache ta tuque avec d'la broche.

pimp Posted July 1, 2017 Author Posted July 1, 2017 After a little over 10 mins in 1.5 with high settings and me being the only aircraft in the mission, the freeze happened. I also noticed the usage fluctuating the entire time. I'm starting to think this is normal when gaming. More usage is applied when needed? Regardless, it did drop to 0%. So, for me, 1.5 isn't as reliable as I expected either. i9 14900k @5.6GHz NZXT Kraken |Asus ROG Strix Z790 A-Gaming | Samsung NVMe m.2 990 Pro 2TB | 64GB DDR5 6400MHz EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra | PiMAX CRYSTAL LIGHT | HOTAS Warthog | Saitek Flight Pedals

Automan Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 Before change PSU, if you are using the two 8pin cables from the same rail, try using 8pin from 2 different rails: I have EVGA 980ti and I was having freeze and system restart using cables from the same rail. Another thing you should do is write EVGA for a bios update: from gpu-z I see that you have a special revision board (6687), but all the bios updates found are for FTW2 6686. https://forums.evga.com/EVGA-GeForce-GTX-1080-FTW2-and-SC2-OPTIONAL-11GHz-BIOS-Update-Available-Now-m2652350.aspx ACER Predator Orion 9000: W10H | Intel i9-7900X OC@4.5Ghz | 8x16GB Crucial Ballistix Sport | Sapphire GTX1080TI | Intel 900P 480GB | Intel 600P 256GB | HP EX950 1TB | Seagate Firecuda 2TB ACER Predator XB281HK: 28" TN G-SYNC 4K@60hz ThrustMaster Warthog Hotas, TPR, MFD Cougar Pack, HP Reverb Pro
BitMaster Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 Have you ever stress-tested your GPU for an hour or so ?? In your screenshot it says "92°C" Target Temperature. I think this is far too high. The GPU will throttle down before ever reaching that temp, afaik 80-82°C is the limit. Download some strestesters like Kombustor or Aida64 and torture it. dburne Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 Hi DB, thanks for your time. I uninstalled Precision before I uninstalled the drivers. However, after installing Precision again, I noticed my previous profile was still there. So maybe it wasn't a clean uninstall. Just to rule it out, I would uninstall it again and this time remove any and all profiles, then install clean again. That is typically the recommendation when installing new drivers. pimp Posted July 2, 2017 Author Posted July 2, 2017 So I uninstalled all the Nvidia/EVGA stuff completely and installed the new Nvidia driver 384.76 and tested 2.1.1 but the 2-3 second freeze still happened. Then, I installed the new RM850x PSU and the freeze still happened. So i'll chalk this up as a loss for me and a win for clueless. Cause I have no idea whats wrong so I'm done. I'll run stress tests just for fun though. I want to thank EVERYONE for ALL of the help/suggestions you've provided. it was really appreciated. BitMaster Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 ..... .I'll run stress tests just for fun though. Should be the #1 thing to do if you think something is off with consistent performance. One thing for sure, something is amiss as it definitely should not be doing that. It sure sounds like something somewhere is conflicting with DCS. Btw - are you running the latest Track IR software? dburne Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Yes. I even tried with just the keyboard and mouse plugged in. DCS on the lowest settings and 1 monitor and it still did the 2-3 second freezing. Well, I will say - while I do not see anything like this in DCS 2.1, performance certainly went down somewhat with it and DCS 2.1 is still very much in Alpha Stage. I do get some minor stuttering over Normandy at times, but also I am flying in VR. There have been many various reports of performance issues across the board for the most part. It still being an Alpha build, with some new tech just introduced in 2.1, I would not put too much stock in what you are seeing currently, as far as your new video card is concerned. That EVGA 1080 FTW2 is a great card, and unless you are seeing similar in other games, I would not worry about it. Wait and see if some future update to DCSW 2 makes things better for ya.
