Hi,

When flying in tailwind you can maintain a way lower IAS compared to flying in headwind. Its like the FM is using groundspeed to calculate lift instead of IAS.

This has been reported before, just wanted to check if any progress has been made.

Same here. I felt like a brick. :D

Argh! I've fixed this issue at least once every six months since start of Viggen development. No idea why it keeps cropping up. Can you tell me how your plane was oriented when you experienced the problem (north/east/south/west) and how you read the IAS (in cockpit or external view?)

Did some testing just now.

S wind = Wind from South (DIR: 0 ingame)

N wind = Wind from North (DIR: 180 ingame)

W wind = Wind from West (DIR: 090 ingame)

E wind = Wind from East (DIR: 270 ingame)

500m altitude flown

20 kt wind

Clean aircraft

30% fuel

Alt hold engaged

All speeds in KPH

Speeds at 10 units AoA, indicated both by AoA meter in cockpit and F2 view:

cockpit speed / F2 speed

N wind flying N: 350 / 357

N wind flying S: 225 / 217

N wind flying W: 295 / 291

N wind flying E: 295 / 291

S wind flying N: 225 / 216

S wind flying S: 350 / 357

S wind flying W: 290 / 285

S wind flying E: 290 / 285

W wind flying N: 295 / 291

W wind flying S: 295 / 289

W wind flying W:350 / 357

W wind flying E: 225 / 220

E wind flying N: 296 / 293

E wind flying S: 290 / 287

E wind flying W: 227 / 220

E wind flying E: 352 / 357

Conclusion:

Regardless of wind direction, a significantly higher IAS is required for the same AoA when flying in headwind compared to tailwind.

More thrust is also required when flying in headwind compared to tailwind (because of the increased IAS i assume).

I hope this helps :)

Just crashed in front of the strip in strong sidewind mission. Any chance to get this fixed in next couple of patches?

upd. Do you need any additional info (missions, tracks, etc)? Hope this issue is treated as quite priority one because it`s nearly nothing to do now with Viggen in windy missions.

I've fixed the issue. Was very simple because of addde's bug report!
