chris455 Posted September 16, 2017 Posted September 16, 2017 Gents, Every time DCS World updates, my custom skins I have put in the canned mission (Free Flight, etc.) revert back to the default skins. Is there a way to circumvent this? Thank you in adavnce for any helpful answers- Chris [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Remembering Arlie "Jack" Campbell, US Army Air Forces, WWII. Well done dad, rest in peace.
Yurgon Posted September 16, 2017 Posted September 16, 2017 (edited) Just to make sure I understand the problem correctly: You edited some of the missions that come with DCS, like the Free Flight missions, to include custom skins? In that case, yeah, DCS will replace the edited missions with the default missions during each update, because it checks all the files in the installation directory for changes. Possibly the easiest way is to use a mod manager like OvGME or JSGME. These allow you to apply modifications to the game - and these mods are usually just changed files, which is exactly what I understand you're trying to accomplish. Using said mod manager, you could create a mod that basically contains a structure like this (from memory, since I'm not at my gaming PC ATM): - Mods - Aircraft - A-10C - Missions - Free Flight Day.miz And then after every update, just use the mod-manager to re-enable your mod. (Actually, it's recommended that you disable all mods before any update and re-enable afterwards to prevent DCS from downloading all kinds of stuff that you isn't really needed anyway). Hope that helps. :) Edit: The preferred way to apply mods is more or less changing these days, and mods should now go to the "Saved Games\DCS" directory. I'm not sure if we can override the supplied missions this way. If so, you'd only need to place your edited mission to: Saved Games\DCS\Mods\Aircraft\[Module of choice]\Missions\[Mission Name].miz And you wouldn't need a mod manager at all. Not sure if this is going to work, but certainly worth a try. :) Edited September 16, 2017 by Yurgon

Hi, I've been testing this changes that DCS is having, and found that the use of Saved Games is actually meant only for those Mods that add elements to the game: new planes, new ships, new structures, etc ... it doesnt allow us to replace files of existing DCS modules, like the canned missions.
