I'm still running 1.5.6 because I have a ton of mods and really can't imagine playing without them. I want to try 1.5.7, but with all the feedback I've read about performance (I gave up on Normandy because of it) and the many posts about mods not working in 1.5.7 I have yet to do it.

Has anything changed recently? Just looking for general feedback and personal experiences.

The mods I most could not do without is the George W. Bush with working meatball, all the VSN mods, some vehicle and infantry mods and maybe the bomb mod that makes the MK82/84 etc more useful.

All responses appreciated.

If you are still on 1.5.6 that means that you dont play on Multiplayer, since all the servers are on 1.5.7 already.

I say this because it isnt that Mods dont work on 1.5.7 ... they do, its only that most of them cant be used on multiplayer.

So, that leaves only the alleged performance drop to worry about ... but I have both the 1.5.6 and the 1.5.7 (openbeta) and honestly dont notice any difference between them.

Best regards.

Thanks for the info, I had a busy week just seeing this. Yeah the VSN mods are a big deal for me.

No I haven't played much multiplayer and when I have it's with friends with the same mods on my server. I think I'm going to give 1.5.7 a try. My NTTR performance has improved so hopefully I won't see a performance drop on 1.5.7 either, cheers.

I have several issues with the George W bush mod with dcs v1.5.7, using the Hornet 8.3 collection from VFA stingers site.

  1. Initially dcs would crash once you were in cockpit, some updated Lua files fixed that.
  2. I removed the FA-18 mod files and tested with the SU-33 PFM aircraft and seemed to work ok, except I can't land on carrier due to my own incompetence, kept crashing into the end of the ship.
  3. Installed the FA-18 Mod files and it broke all the controls for the Su-33 aircraft controls due to its "default.lua" file replacing the games default.lua for keyboard and joystick. (These files have changed a lot since 1.5.6 and now the su-33 PFM in v1.5.7), compared all "default.lua" files and modified them to allow all correct functions of the Su-33 PFM in game, as well as the modifications for the Fa-18 special features as well. Tested FA-18 basic stuff worked in game such as gear, flaps, hook, speed brake, lights = no problems.
  4. Finally everything seemed to be working as it should, so I tried a carrier landing, it all went well until touchdown on the carrier, instead of trapping, I kept on going through the carrier deck and exploding inside the carrier.
  5. Fixed going through the carrier and exploding:

  • Replaced the F-18a.lod, F-18c.lod and F-18-collision.edm files in the MOD folder \Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Shapes\with the originals from DCS v.1.5.7 in ..\DCS World\Bazar\World\Shapes\.

  • Been practicing put the F-18 on the deck all afternoon, finally catching the cables.

Also got the PLAT camera operational again, the original overlay program doesn't run anymore for me so I used this program to place the overlay on the LSO camera view.

Thanks for the info, I guess I may have to switch between the two depending on what missions I am playing. Hopefully not too many more months until the all new carrier experience.
