Whilst I am all for as much realism as you can get, will there be an option in Black Shark for language change for the Systems in BS.

I am talking in particular about the Nav System and and Avionics, I belive that the manual for the Nav system alone runs to 72 pages so it is obviously incredibly complex piece of equipement. I can see a problem for those of us who don't speak Russian, trying to marry up English words in the manual to their russian equivalents in-game.

Just a thought and not a huge problem but I just thought I would ask.:smilewink:

You can see from at least one of the Ka50 videos that yes, the ABRIS is available in English as well as in Russian - so don't worry on that front :)

The ABRIS is very detailed, yes, but you don't in fact need to understand every function in order to use it satisfactorily. The simplest thing (and IMO the most useful) is just to leave it in moving-map mode.

The rest of the avionics remain marked in Russian, but there are English tips available to remind you which switch is which :)

Thanks for letting me know, I was a bit worried about getting a SAM up my exhaust pipe while I am was trying top translate a page into Russian.

Sorry not related to this topic but I have a concern regarding the clickable cockpit.

Is it practical to click all those buttons and switches during an engagement?

It is not a big problem in FS series, however, as we would be dealing with targets and lots of Abris vs functions while trying to fly the bird, it should be a big problem to handle the switches and buttons with the mouse. You cannot leave the stick or collective for using the mouse. On the other hand, you cannot use the mouse with left hand (at least I cannot).

You can use the joystick with your left hand, and thus being able to use the mouse with the other ;) Seriousely, I think that basic weapon/countermeasure commands will have a keyboard binding, or if you're sim-crazy you can program your 'HOTAS' stick.

I feel ashamed of making the comparison with a 11 year old program, but in F4 you too can assign commands to the keyboard, and click on the mfd buttons or whatever.

I also doubt that you'll need to engage or disengage the Batteries or Ejection-Seat-System in a fight, as well as you won't need to check cockpit-lights, engine starting system, canopy-hatch, etc.

Just map the main functions to stick and keyboard and there you go.

Yep, make sure you're configured for combat before you enter the target area and that's it.

There -are- occasions where you will have to push buttons etc. You better find a safe place to do this at then ;)

Spot-on.

Most of the switches, you won't need to touch in a combat scenario. There are weapons panel switches, but I haven't had a problem yet of needing three hands to flick them around in a combat zone.

Wiki sums it up fairly well:

Kamov concluded after thorough research of helicopter combat in Afghanistan and other war zones that the typical attack mission phases of low-level approach, pop-up target acquisition, and weapon launch don't simultaneously demand navigation, maneuvering, and weapons operation of the pilot; and thus with well-designed support automation a single pilot can indeed carry out the entire mission alone.

Usually, you'll either be flying, fighting, or navigating. Never all three at once.

I OH so know what you are talking about here

All I have to say is: Terrain masking is your friend.

You get spotted by a fighter, kiss it good bye, 'cause if you do things wrong, you WILL be nailed BVR and you'll never know you're even under attack.

Having said all that, it's not all that difficult for Ka-50's to hide ... unless you're crossing flatlands, then you might encounter issues, but even then things can be reasonably manageable.

I hoap that it at least won't be a big black dot visually from far away like other aircraft.

Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.

Nope, Ka-50 visibility is good that way.
