► Introducing the VPC Constellation Series

VPC are proud to launch our new range of space-sim focused devices, dubbed the VPC Constellation Series. These devices are aimed specifically at satisfying the needs of even the most demanding space-sim pilots!

VPCConstellation_DELTA.jpg

The VPC Constellation Delta will be the first release of the Constellation Series. The Constellation Delta is an ambidextrous entry level space-sim grip designed to be used on the existing VPC MongoosT-50 Base and all future VPC Bases without needing any adapters or modifications. It features a range of controls and space-sim focused features including:

• Dual-Stage Trigger

• 8-Way POV Hat (With Programmable LED Lighting)

• 2 x 5-Way Hat (4-Way + Push)

• 1 x Analog Stick + Push

• 1 x Scroll Wheel + Push

• Optional Twist Axis

Combined with the VPC Configurator, shift states and modes can be configured to increase the total button count. The LED lighting can change to reflect the selected mode.

The VPC Constellation Delta is perfect for a dual stick setup, combined with a left or right hand VPC MongoosT-50 Grip or even as a standalone stick with throttle.

VPC will continue to expand the Constellation Series with more devices in the near future - as always, we’re interested to hear what the community wants to see!

The VPC Constellation Delta is scheduled for release in Q1 2018 with pricing information to follow shortly.

Stay tuned for further updates!

► VPC Constellation Delta Update

Recently we unveiled our VPC Constellation Delta, a grip designed with space-sim pilots in mind and to pave the way for future VPC Constellation devices.

The reception to this announcement has been absolutely fantastic and we’re glad you guys are as excited as we are!

We received a number of requests for a secondary fire button - In keeping with our desire to work closely with the community, we’re very pleased to announce that we have modified the VPC Constellation Delta design to account for this request!

The secondary fire button has been added below the main trigger, this allows instant activation with the second finger without negatively affecting the ergonomics of the VPC Constellation Delta. The 2 x 5-way hats have also been recoloured black for a sleeker look.

Looking good!

Combined with the VPC Configurator, shift states and modes can be configured to increase the total button count. The LED lighting can change to reflect the selected mode.

This I am very interested in as I have mentioned previously, any word on when this configurator is going to be available for the general public?

I don't like to sound negative, but an "entry level" grip that only fits on a £200 base seems a bit, well, strange to me.

Since this is the entry level stick I want to make it short and add some comments for upcoming sticks.

Good concept, but in my opinion too few normal buttons.

Add a pinky button and add a thumb button (or two?)

I think a button left and right of the scroll wheel would be ergonomically reachable for the thumb.

A button under each 4-way hat would also be at a good position.

A Lever for the pinky finger would also be nice.

Since you are not limited to make some kind of replica for a space sim stick I would suggest to add as many buttons, hats, analog sticks as possible (you can never have enough buttons, in the worst case just dont bind them) Those "more buttons" just need to be ergonomically reachable. The more options the better, I think.

While I really like that you add a dedicated space sim stick I must confess I am a little dissappointed that you did not add more buttons to it. In my opinion there are so many places where you could easily add a few buttons to this stick. Just my opinion though! :)

This needs cheap but good enough base for it. Would really put other entery level stick manufactures to trash can

It will fit on future VPC bases as well - patience! :smilewink:

Th Delta grip is intended to be the starting point of the VPC Constellation series, for those upgrading from other currently available ambidextrous sticks, or to supplement an existing MT-50 stick in a dual stick setup! Future additions to the Constellation series will have all the features you mentioned (at a higher price, of course)!

While I personally hate anything ambidextrous (too much compromise), I think it looks good overall.

My X-55 has 9 buttons and two 8-way hats. This has 12 with an 8-way and an analogue hat. That is an upgrade over a mid-range joystick. And keep in mind this is supposed to make a good secondary stick for HOSAS (which I personally think is the wrong approach to space sims), which means you can use your 57 button right-handed stick in combination anyway.

I'm sure that like VKB, they intend to make a lower cost base, but intelligently they intend to allow the customer the maximum flexibility possible by allowing use of the grip with any base they feel appropriate.

I'm pleased to see this innovation in the flight stick industry as the last 10 years has had very little development from the conventional big name companies. I hope Virpil and VKB keep pushing each other to innovate.

Pretty clever imo. Lefties and dual stick users who are looking for better than the T16000 will be all over this. My only thought is that push button scroll wheels are typically difficult to push on without accidentally scrolling the wheel, but maybe someone else can do it better than me :) Also, that seems like the natural place to rest your thumb. But anyways, I'll likely buy one, or one of the later, upgraded models, and retire the T16K.

The only criticism I have is non-adjustable palm rest. I've never owned a joystick that felt like all buttons were easily reachable without significantly lifting my hand.

Rather than making the rest a molded piece of the stick, why not have some kind of slots that it could slide into so you have maybe 3 different positions to choose from? It might have to be made in two pieces if you want it go all the way around, but it's something the user sets once and leaves it like that until the end of time.

Dual stick setup's seem to be all the rage right now in space sims which have enjoyed a big resurgence in recent years, not sure I could transition from pedals to a second stick but I think its a good move to make their space stick ambidextrous as it caters for both groups without having to manufacture a left handed version. I think their products are already keenly priced compared to other manufacturers for what you get, I'm not sure I see the need for a cheaper base. Thrustmaster squandered the ability to switch sticks so its great to see a manufacturer cracking on with producing more grips for their base without the need for adaptors and additional parts.

Indeed, Virpil was smart in doing it this way.

Reading in to this a bit, I think there is a hint there of na entry level base on the drawing board.

Looks interesting to me, as an Elite: Dangerous player. I hope the LED can be disabled, as I find directly lit LED's fracking annoying on a stick,

Anyway, about to head off, but will share thoughts later...

Looks interesting but for me a key feature is the thumb rest hat.

I know it’s ambidextrous, so it can’t be helped. But if it’s “entry level” then people who haven’t built up a muscle memory should be fine with it.

Same, a pinky switch, though, would have been a possible addition. Still, as an entry level model, to me this means a possible higher end model, along with...

...An entry level base on the drawing board? :pilotfly:

Having had a think about it, I think the fine folk at VPC should consider a digital lever on the bottom of the stick. In the heat of battle, it is well suited to chaff/heat sinks etc.

I do like the dual 4 way hat + press - this is awesome.

Dual stage trigger - not sure about this one, I have not found a useful way to map it in E: D, would have been wonderful if you could use the first stage to keep multi cannons spinning, and second stage to fire, thus avoiding the spin up, but it's not something Frontier seem to have thought about, and not something they will likely implement, either. Having said that, no idea how the other space "sims" will work in this regard. Would be nice if the second stage trigger had an extension of some sort, though, to allow discrete use of the second stage.

These ideas may be too late to implement in the budget stick, but would be awesome if they were considered for a higher end stick...

Just a thought.

On a side note, may be worth making an account on the Elite Dangerous forum, also perhaps the Infinity Battlescape one and others, though I've already posted threads about the throttle and stick on the Elite Dangerous forums.

Dual stick setup's seem to be all the rage right now in space sims which have enjoyed a big resurgence in recent years, not sure I could transition from pedals to a second stick but I think its a good move to make their space stick ambidextrous as it caters for both groups without having to manufacture a left handed version. Pedals to a second stick? No, the idea is the second stick replaces the throttle. stick 1 = pitch+roll, stick 2 = thrusters up/down +left/right. Forward and backwards thrust would be bound to a two way switch most likely. Though, honestly, Elite doesn't really reward throttle use, so binding 0, 25%, 5-% 75% and 100% is about all you need, and reverse thrust.

As for a cheaper base... If effectively making a sealed, non adjustable base with metal cams, and a "budget" grip could knock the price down to roughly mid way between a TM T16000M and a CH Fighter stick, I think they'd have a winner.

Good job on that addition, I think you have a darn good design there.
