These pictures are taken back in '80s during Fulcrum's first demo visit to North America. Not alliance nor interception but preplanned demo flight.

the Blue "315" is not airforce craft , it's plane of the Mikoyan corparation , used for testing and for international exhibitions , that means that shots are from Farnborough airshow , or another one :)

Haven't you heard of wormholes? :D

Out of interest, since I don't know the location of airbases in Russia - from where would a MiG-29 fly from that it would be intercepted by a CF-18?

I don't think so! Take a closer look and you'll see Canadian flag on vertical fins

i suspect the pilot may not even be russian. at one stage the mig was piloted by a viper pilot, later interviewed by media about the comparison of the two aircraft.

given a bit of serching im sure somebody may come up with that article.

Two Hornets of 441 "Silver Fox" Squadron, a single seater (number 775) in the foreground and a dual in the background, fly wingman to a Russian MiG 29 Fulcrum over the Canadian Rockies enroute to the Mig's first public appearance in North America during the Abbotsford Airshow in British Columbia in August of 1989. The Mig, which is about the same size as the Hornet, was one of two (the other was a dual) which performed a 10-12 minute demonstration each day of the airshow. During one of these daily shows Maj. Bob Wade became the first Westerner to fly a Mig-29 fighter when he was invited to take the front seat of the dual and copy the manoeuvres of Mikoyan test pilot Valery Menitsky in the back seat during the airshow display.
