deephack Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Be fun to have the RAF style ones too. Apollo, Chaos, Razor etc. https://www.youtube.com/user/deephack
NeilWillis Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 It'd be even better if we could add our own voice recordings and call signs to make the system completely "modable". Can anyone come up with the relevant lua amendments and suggest a way to implement voice recording additions?
Northstar98 Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 (edited) For me I'd love to start with the NATO phonetic alphabet and have them as callsigns. Personally I'd like a way of being able to select normal callsigns and numeric callsigns for both coalitions. Obviously real-life callsigns would be great, with variety in voice acting (so far SF2: NA has the best variety and best voice acting IMO) Edited January 8, 2018 by Northstar98 Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. MikeMikeJuliet Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 If ED provided for a voice-template making new voiceovers would just be a matter of time. I agree we need more callsigns, but I would also like more voices for the current callsigns. Rather uninspired hearing the same 4 voices over and over. DCS Finland | SF squadron
Grimes Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 It'd be even better if we could add our own voice recordings and call signs to make the system completely "modable". Can anyone come up with the relevant lua amendments and suggest a way to implement voice recording additions? Its just two main steps really. 1. Modify db_callnames.lua 2. Add a sound file with the same name into sounds/speech folders for anyone who can say the callsign. Otherwise errors may occur. I only did a quick test, but it may be possible for radios to completely break if a file is missing. What I don't know is if callsigns can be applied to specific aircraft types or just added to the game in general outside of modifying that file. I know when adding a aircraft module you can setup callsigns for it. For example that is how the A-10 specific callsigns were added. However the sound files for those are still in sounds and not in coremods. Unfortunately I think the big reason for why new callsigns haven't been added is simply down to the sound files. Simply a ton of work to add anything and I would imagine its difficult to get voices sounding similar to how they are. Its hard to say what all is moddable with it. A quick look makes me think that you can add alternative allied flight voice types pretty easily. I don't know if that can apply to some of the stuff that only has a single voice available like player, JTAC, AWACs, etc. It all uses the same lua function to find the files... so maybe? The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. NeilWillis Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Great, thanks for the heads up Grimes. It is a mountain of work, which might account for the lack of movement on this from ED so far. I guess step 1 is to make a list of all sound files we'd need to update for it to work correctly.
