Bad_Karma-701 Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 (edited) Trying to fly at night is nearly impossible in the F-15c The cockpit lighting nearly washes out everything else and the terrain and horizon are nearly non existent anyone know how to turn down the brightness of the cockpit and or turn up the brightness of map ? this is horrendous like flying into a black wall in 2.5 unlike 1.5 which was manageable:cry: but dark. Spetz Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Welcome to IFR flying! I don't know if the FC3 aircraft have the ability to vary cockpit lighting like other modules. Try increasing the time of day by 30 minutes at a time until you find something you find manageable.
pimp Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 The F-15C does not have night vision so you should not fly at night in it. As mentioned, change the time of day so you can see the map. Otherwise, avoid night flying in the F-15C. i9 14900k @5.6GHz NZXT Kraken |Asus ROG Strix Z790 A-Gaming | Samsung NVMe m.2 990 Pro 2TB | 64GB DDR5 6400MHz EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra | PiMAX CRYSTAL LIGHT | HOTAS Warthog | Saitek Flight Pedals

Problem is the Baltic dragon campaign mission starts at 0430 :pilotfly: so I've cranked the gamma for a interm solution. which sucks it should be dark but damn it would be nice to tweak the lighting settings cockpit is just a little too bright and ambient lighting just a little too dark. the fact that its soo close that its annoying. that and the lack of NVG's. Is The Baltic Dragon Campaign payware or did it come with FC3? If it came with FC3, it might need to be checked as it would have been created quite a while ago and needs to be tweaked. Reading the forum threads, it seems that night flight has some problems in 2.5. Reading the forum threads, it seems that night flight has some problems in 2.5. Its separate from the FC3. I've ramp'd up the gamma as a work around not perfect but at least gets me through it I am taking a guess that its a unforeseen issue with the 2.5 beta. Bad_Karma-701 Posted February 13, 2018 Author Posted February 13, 2018 Yep, it's impossible for me to see the horizon on a moonless night, defiantly a bug that needs fixed. In fact, it's so dark I can't even see my hand in front of my face... Oh gee, wait, I'm sorry, I was out in the back yard...:megalol: :hehe::tomato: Seriously though, in real life this is one of the reasons for CFIT "Controlled Flight into Terrain (CFIT) occurs when an airworthy aircraft under the complete control of the pilot is inadvertently flown into terrain, water...etc, Can be very dangerous and or at least frighting in real life... It would be nice if the FC3 modules had dimmable instrument and flood lighting, along the option for a red flash light, especially for VR, as night vision, or the lack thereof, is much more realistic in VR. And also, the option to change the comm and notation text to red lettering for when it's dark. More of a "wish list" than a bug, although a very legitimate and needed wish list...:noexpression: CFIT yea what I exactly was trying to avoid and it exacerbated in game because your eyes cannot adjust to the lighting. external light sources are too dim in the environment ex stars, moon. even early morning the sun just creeping on the horizon is way to dark in relation to instrument lighting in VR and no way to adjust makes it a pain in the behind. as well as object lighting should have an adjustment. especially since you cant adjust in FC3 aircraft. This really needs to be a thing, and its kinda odd they don't have lighting/ brightness adjustments in the options menu along side the sound. Rift CV1: i-7 8700 RTX 2070 16GB 3200mhz win10. Habu_69 Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Simple solution until ED fixes this. Use HDR at night, Deferred Shading (Gamma 1.5) during day.
Wolf8312 Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Simple solution until ED fixes this. Use HDR at night, Deferred Shading (Gamma 1.5) during day. I didn't realize one could change gamma when in game now. This largely fixes the problem for me! ------------ 3080Ti, i5- 13600k 32GB VIVE index, VKB peddals, HOTAS VPC MONGOOSE, WARTHOG throttle, BKicker,

AMEDooley Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 I work on a flight line at night, and guess what? It’s dark. Really dark. This isn’t a bug, this is how light works. I will say that the street lights do need to be tweaked a bit as they’re just a tad dark, but night time is suppose to be like that. Without DS on you might as well be flying during the day as it’s too bright. That is unrealistic. You’re going to have to learn IFR flying my friend. As for the lighting in the cockpit, yes it is too bright and needs to be adjusted for VR. But it is an FC3 aircraft so I highly doubt they will change that. As to making it red, the F-15 doesn’t have red backlighting so why would you want that in the game. This is a sim after all. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
AMEDooley Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 I thought this video would help illustrate my point on how dark it is at night. I do agree that the lights need to be brighter in DCS and need to reflect off of clouds a bit better, but with regards to how dark flying at night is, I think they’ve done a great job. Real Night is dark. Before 2.5 it was always unrealistic in dcs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Oculus CV1, Odyssey, Pimax 5k+ (i5 8400, 24gb ddr4 3000mhz, 1080Ti OC ) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Buckeye Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Once they get the city and street lights fixed, I think the night lighting will be fine. Agreed with everyone above that the level of darkness currently in 2.5, based on moonlighting, seems perfectly fine to me...it is dark at night. The only part that I see that needs a little work is the lack of lighting given off from street lights, cities, etc. This shows a pretty solid view of what city/street lights should look like against a pitch black sky (start at around 2:25): Rig: SimLab P1X Chassis | Tianhang Base PRO + Tianhang F-16 Grip w/ OTTO Buttons | Custom Throttletek F/A-18C Throttle w/ Hall Sensors + OTTO switches and buttons | Slaw Device RX Viper Pedals w/ Damper Tactile: G-Belt | 2x BK LFE + 1x BK Concert | 2x TST-429 | 1x BST-300EX | 2x BST-1 | 6x 40W Exciters | 2x NX3000D | 2x EPQ304 PC/VR: Somnium VR1 Visionary | 4090 | 12700K

Spot Buckeye! It’s not so much as how dark t is, merely the light off lamps and city lights. Give ED a bit I’m sure it’ll get cleaned up. Great video by the way. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
