- A Dedicated Server Software

will allow great benefits in terms of performance and management

- A new Weather Engine

will allow great benefits in terms of realism, finally you can have different METAR in airports and relatively unpredictable situations, ice simulation, wake turbulences, etc.etc.

- A new Editor 3D

will allow great benefits in terms of creativity and reduction of editing time, and the weather part will contain more cloud layers to set, the ability to position certain weather situations in specific points. It will have the possibility to download a real time weather situation from the ED servers.

I think these are the most urgent needs of the real simmer

however, reading the forum there are really many other interesting requests like:

- a drop-down list about the unit of measure

- a better Combined Arms

- an integrated multiplayer radio system

- bigger maps

- more than two coalitions

- .....

Thanks a lot

I take this opportunity to make my condolences to the team, a serious loss

+++ Agreed on all counts.

Absolutely the 3D editor and absolutely the new weather engine. (I don't play multiplayer enough to comment on the dedicated server).

For the 3D editor, something akin to Arma 3's EDEN would be perfect, obviously retain the 2D editor as it's beneficial for setting waypoints and larger scope stuff. A 3D editor is necessary for setting up ground units and static objects. One other method is for having top-down accurate silhouettes of the object your placing at the highest say 2 zoom levels. A better solution is a textured representation as opposed to a silhouette. One other thing for it is to also add another zoom level, just for close infantry groups. Beside from that what I'd also like to see are static objects being able to use the template systems.

For the weather system, for me I'd like firstly to be able to determine different weather in different zones, maybe using the geographic or MGRS grid, of course with options for 'apply to all' and 'apply to selected' so that users don't have to edit each square one by one if it isn't necessary.

Secondly there's enhancements to the weather itself: determining cloud layers/altitudes, densities and types, obviously with certain restrictions for realism (so clouds that feature at low altitudes shouldn't be available in the high altitude layers; user defined wind layers, user defined temperature regions/autodefined temperature regions; precipitation severity and type (dependent on clouds present), thunderstorm severity. Moving on things like thermal collums, maybe even slope lift/Lee waves, but the latter are maybe lower priority.

One thing I'd like to see a user customised weather timeline, whereby we can define how weather changes over time, when it changes and what it changes to, maybe have the ability for the user to define multiple points where the weather changes at what times. If we take into account the different weather in different places, this is where the 'apply to selected' and 'apply to all' feature would save a lot of time. For example say mission start weather is AAA, with the time line the user can define what the weather changes to, at what time from mission start so say after an hour weather changes to BBB, once the timeline reaches the last point where weather changes, the weather stays like that indefinitely, like it does already.

I'm not sure how transitions are going to be handled, maybe a slow build up +/-10minutes or something (or even better, user defined) for it to happen? Just so there aren't clouds suddenly appearing and so forth.

Obviously apart from that weather system graphics, new clouds, new precipitation.

An integrated multiplayer radio system that players can use would be a big plus, as would having more than 2 coalitions (maybe the ability to add, delete, rename and edit coalitions while mission editing, maybe have it so allegiances and behaviour can be set, maybe even altered through triggers).

Bigger maps would be great, but maybe not so feasible atm owing to the current teething performance issues with the 2.5 Caucasus, unless you went for large mostly blue-water maps with only small landmasses - something like a Baltic, Barents, GIUK gap maps or similar.

A better CA would be fantastic, maybe a CA module equivalent to aircraft modules, but first we need to sort out a few things.

How about better training missions ones that actually train you instead of ones that evaluate you. I believe for effective learning requires 4 phases at most all require the first two which are explanation and demonstration if they are to be familiar these are all that’s needed if tasks require you to be able to do them then you need the third phase, practice if they need to be proficient then they need the final phase of evaluation phase. Right now we have to skip the primary three phase and go to the final phase the only way the first two phases can be conducted is by a third party video program the third phase can be practiced without supervision but if your having problems understanding what to do and why then the practice session would be frustrating.

And there’s no way to play the video from within dcs so right now if you can find the videos that explain and demonstrate the tasks your wanting to learn then you either watch it then go in to dcs practice the task if it’s simple enough to practice with out supervision. In fixed wing aircraft the tasks are easier to preform the basic tasks than rotary wing tasks especially in the Huey which has no autopilot it simulates basic copilot flying the aircraft using rudimentary autopilot commands this bird requires the most complete comprehensive training of any aircraft I can think of too couch collective then the egr temp rises and damages the engine roughy movement of the cyclic then you may loose your rotor, to fly the Huey requires juggling the three controls, collective, cyclic and trim pedals raise the collective add more pedal to off set the torque and adjust the cyclic to prevent rollover . In a fixed wing or counter rotary wing it is a lot easier.

ATC, ATC, ATC - a biggy (if not the biggest in my view) for SP immersion.

Regarding ED , they did say they were looking into dedicated server half a decade ago ......

Wags on his stream said they are planning dedicated server, but I also plan to marry a super model and both have about the same chance of actually happening

There are more than 3 things that need to be added and changed to improve the realism, but for now, promises is what you can get and everything depends now on the F18, not what the users want or need.

Am I special?

Yeah, I saw that video and I think this effect as a step forward.

Another step forward could be the cockpit environment systems (windshield, canopy defog, etc.) and ice simulation and wake turbulences.

However, I would like the weather editor to be more complete, with more cloud layers, different weather situation onto more points on the map, ...

Unfortunately, it seems that the ED resources are allocated to other topics, and I believe instead that these of which I speak are part of the basis of an excellent simulator.
