ED Team Groove Posted March 27, 2007 ED Team Posted March 27, 2007 Interesting reading, at least for me: http://www.f16viper.org/waldman.htm part of it: Our four-ship was fragged to support a package of F-117 stealth fighters and F-16 CG's (loaded with laser guided weapons) hitting multiple targets in Belgrade. These 'downtown' Belgrade missions were complex and dangerous, as the enemy had a vast concentration of SA-3 and highly mobile SA-6 surface to air missile systems (SAMS) surrounding the city. These missile systems were very active, especially at night. The Serbians were very adept at moving their SAMS and we really never knew the exact location of a majority of them. Moreover, the terrain and consistently poor weather and visibility made it extremely difficult for certain imaging devices to pick up the sites. The SAM systems surrounding the outlying city of Obrvah caused instant heartburn for many pilots flying missions in Yugoslavia. We aptly named the operating airspace above Obrvah "Satan's Ass,” as flying through it was like flying through hell. The SAM operator(s) at this site had an affinity for consistently launching mass quantities of missiles at our aircraft. You knew you had to keep your cranium on a swivel if you were flying anywhere close to this location. Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
nscode Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 There is no place in Serbia called "Obrvah". Perhaps he meant Obrenovac.. Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.

hitman Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Just heard it on news that a documentary entitled Zlatni Zoltan or Golden Zoltan, about Colonel Zoltan Dani is being filmed. Zoltan commanded the unit that shot down the F-117... You used his name entirely waaaay too many times. 4c Hajduk Veljko Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Today’s „ПОЛИТИКА“, Serbian daily news paper, published detailed article about the shot down of F-117. According to the article, the following systems were used to locate, track and engage the target: SAM SA-3 NEVA, P-12 and P-15 radars (old technology with electronic lamps). Another “new” (whatever that “new” means) system is mentioned named “TSER” capable of tracking stealth aircraft. According to the article the target was discovered at azimuth 150, range 53 ( I assume 53 km). Soon after, two missiles were launched. The pilot attempted maneuvering, deploying the chaffs and turning the jammer ON. Few months after the F-117 was downed, UK decided to quit pursuing the purchase of F-117. And here's the link to the article ... GGTharos Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 ... Because they will be buying F-35's, dude. As for detection at 53km ... were they able to track it through mountains or something? D-Scythe Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Come on guys, don't you know that ANYTHING can track stealth aircraft? Stealth is only incorporated into the B-2, F-117, F22/35 to make them look technologically superior - it doesn't actually work. The destruction of the SA-3 is the ultimate proof of that. Who cares about other factors that might've lead to the shoot down? Bottom line, stealth doesn't work.

nscode Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 "Electronic lamps"? Did you maybe mean Electron Tubes? In the transmitter of a search radar, electron tubes aren't necessarily as old-school as you might think. ;) Yeah, but there's a good chance these were replaced by transistors some years ago.. not to keep them modern, but to keep them working ;) (as the needed tubes were hard to get.. Its completely passive and those coutermeasures would only lit up the radars and listening devices far away. I say the article has been spiced up, including with that anti Stealth radar thing. Take it with a grain of salt. 53Km? yeah right. .
hitman Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 There must have been a UFO in the area shadowing the F-117...and then made the missile lock onto the stealth plane by telekinesis or some shit... nscode Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 The article is most probably pure imagination of the journalist or his misunderstanding. But the 53 km figure might be true, not necessarily meaning it was detected 53 km away by their station, but that they've got data from someone else that it was coming from that direction.. Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
Force_Feedback Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 There must have been a UFO in the area shadowing the F-117...and then made the missile lock onto the stealth plane by telekinesis or some shit... Holy shit, this is BIG, better get all the info together before it's covered up, oh, and make a call to Fox Mulder. With telekinesis our grey friends (we come in peace and all the shit, while trying to convert humanity) will have a massive advantage over all of us, well, except maybe for me and the inhabitants of Jamaica, but what the hell. The point is nobody got hurt too much in the process, that's what counts, although it does contradict the concept of war, but I don't care, killing people is always bad, even if they themselves hold no values for human beings. Pass the bong to the right (yes I always f-up the rotation and proud of it)... Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:

Its completely passive and those coutermeasures would only lit up the radars and listening devices far away. So it is always escorted by ECM platforms? I say the article has been spiced up, including with that anti Stealth radar thing. You very well might be right. Take it with a grain of salt. 53Km? yeah right. That’s the number in the article. It could be wrong or it could be right. Documentary is being made of an officer who commanded the SAM system that brought F-117 down. I hope we will get additional info about all of this. pschelchshorn Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 . Documentary is being made of an officer who commanded the SAM system that brought F-117 down. thesystem Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 So it is always escorted by ECM platforms? Well......no Then the enemy would know where the F117 might be in the cloud of ECM....:smilewink: DCS World, A10C, AV8B, M2k, FA18C, FC3, MIG21

ED Team Groove Posted March 28, 2007 ED Team Posted March 28, 2007 Read the article from the VIper Driver i posted #132. He is telling that F-117 Strikes were "covered" by Vipers with HARMs to eliminate enemy SAMs. Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
