FireManDan Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Hi all. New here and have a few questions. 1) Regarding VR and head tracker. I have oculus rift. But using it is bad. Makes me nauseous along with poorer video quality. Hard to read gauges and what not. Its to the point I may just sell the setup. Considering other options such as TrackIR, or more specifically the TrackHat. Opinions? What do others use? How well does does head tracker work in DCS? Other options? 2) How is the multiplayer community? Are there players on to play coop missions with? 3) Are modules inner compatible with friends? ie: I have A, friend has B, can we play a coop mission? Or do both players have to own the same modules?
Zimmerdylan Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Welcome to the DCS community!!!! 1). I use Track IR and have no issues. I opt for it over Oculus at this point as the tech has not quite caught up yet. So I'll get into it when it is more stable. And I have heard people say that it can make them a little sick. So maybe TrackIR is the way to go until you get use to flying DCS. The whole Track IR vs Oculus debate is largely opinion. There are those who swear by VR and are willing to overlook the quality issues. I'm just not one of them. Others think differently. 2. Multiplayer is great! There have been issues as of late for many as to not being able to actually get into servers. I am one of those people. I am stuck in SP until it gets completely resolved. But I have always very much enjoyed the on line community! Helpful friendly people. 3. Both players have to own any module that's in the mission or they cannot enter the AC. Good luck!!! Have fun!
Redhotita1 Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 1) Yea, the rift is "bad" I use it sometimes with fighters, but for attackers is a no go. I use the TrackIR 5 TrackHat. I don't know how's the TrackClipPro but in my opinion would be better than a hat simply by the fact you don't have to wear a hat. I don't know how's the tracking though. 2) Multiplayer community is generally welcoming new players, and are willing to teach a module. There will be some dickheads of course but they're everywhere anyway :) Yes there are coop missions (even bundled within modules) that you can play freely. There is also MBot Dynamic Campaign but I don't have enough upload (0,7mbps) to host it so it's a no go for me :S 3)You have every plane of the game, simply you can't fly it until you buy it (except then it will download the cockpit etc. but you get the point) so yes, you can fly with your friends, say you bought the Viggen while your friend bought the Mirage 2000C, you will be able to play together without you buying the Mirage and viceversa. Hope that was clear enough, tell me if you need more / have more questions. :) PC : i7 7700K | NVIDIA 2070 Super | 32GB RAM 3000MHz Modules : FC3 | Bf 109K-4 Kurfurst | F-5E-3 Tiger II | A-10C Worthog | MiG-21Bis Fishbed | UH-1H Huey | Combined Arms | AJS-37 Viggen | F/A-18C Hornet | Ka-50 | F-14A&B Tomcat! | L-39 | Mi-8MTV | Persian Gulf | F-86F | MiG-15 | AV-8B N/A | M-2000C | P-51D | F-16C | Yak-52 | Nevada | SA342 | NS430 | JF-17 Virpil WarBRD | Virpil VFX Grip
FireManDan Posted May 14, 2018 Author Posted May 14, 2018 @ Zimmer and Red Thanks for the info. But you both gave different answers to question 3 lol.
ricktoberfest Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 @ Zimmer and Red Thanks for the info. But you both gave different answers to question 3 lol. The first is talking about multi crew-2 people in same aircraft. The second answer is more in line with what you’re talking about- flying different planes together Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Nice. what aircraft and how does that work?
BlacleyCole Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 (edited) Also you both need to be using the same map or terrain if I’m not mistaken. Youmayflyoneac yourbuddy a different ac now if you want multi crew where you both are in the same cockpit the only one I know to work so so is the ka-50 but I believe Theresa Trainer also I think its the c-101. Personally I had the rift when. I first discovered dcs,I did it for the. Huey realism. I been trying since the end of January to learn. Itimgetting better but still not able. To hover yet. I never had great luck with TrackIR but that was with xp Edited May 14, 2018 by BlacleyCole BlackeyCole 20years usaf XP-11. Redhotita1 Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 wait. you can have 2 people in the same aircraft!? Nice. what aircraft and how does that work? At the moment only the L-39. It's a training aircraft, it's fun but quite limited on weapons. This year we'll get the F-14A&B Tomcat which will have the pilot and the RIO in the back, he's the guy supposed to manage the radar while the guy in front does "some of that pilot shit". Next up, probably next year, who knows(?) there will be the UH-1H Huey, Mi-8 (They're already available but they said "in the next months" they'll work on the multicrew for this two helicopters) and then the F-4E Phantom. For now I don't think there is any other multicrew announced PC : i7 7700K | NVIDIA 2070 Super | 32GB RAM 3000MHz Modules : FC3 | Bf 109K-4 Kurfurst | F-5E-3 Tiger II | A-10C Worthog | MiG-21Bis Fishbed | UH-1H Huey | Combined Arms | AJS-37 Viggen | F/A-18C Hornet | Ka-50 | F-14A&B Tomcat! | L-39 | Mi-8MTV | Persian Gulf | F-86F | MiG-15 | AV-8B N/A | M-2000C | P-51D | F-16C | Yak-52 | Nevada | SA342 | NS430 | JF-17 Virpil WarBRD | Virpil VFX Grip
QuiGon Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 wait. you can have 2 people in the same aircraft!? Nice. what aircraft and how does that work? You (and your co-pilot) need to buy a module that features multicrewing. Currently only the L-39 Albatros and the Gazelle offer this feature. The F-14 is another module that will feature multicrewing and will be released soon. So for multiplayer in general, you need to have the module you want to fly. If you want to fly aircraft A, you need to buy aircraft A. If your friend has only bought aircraft B, but not aircraft A, then he can still fly in the same mission with you, but he needs to fly aircraft B. Redhotita1 Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 (edited) the Gazelle offer this feature. If I recall correctly, they removed the feature due to some bugs. EDIT : No only the ability to pilot the helicopter as a co pilot has been removed Due to latency issues, ability for the copilot to pilot the helicopter in multicrew mode has been removed. QuiGon Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 If I recall correctly, they removed the feature due to some bugs. I'll search for a source I know this is the case with the Hawk, but I'm not aware that it also applies to the Gazelle? Redhotita1 Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 I know this is the case with the Hawk, but I'm not aware that it also applies to the Gazelle? Negative. I just remember that they removed something but it was just the ability for the copilot to take control of the heli. Sorry, you're right, it HAS multicrew. How well does does head tracker work in DCS? Other options? I just jumped in to the DCS world, and am using the Rift. Yes, I actually puked after my first hard bank. Going on day 6, I am still pretty dizzy but I am now able to bank hard and even invert without issue. You just have to power through it. If your body still won't acclimate, definitely get the TrackIR as it is the next best for immersion. I will say that I will never go back to 2D for flight. Ever. Best of luck! The problem is if your body thinks/feels its moving with out your senses detecting the same thing, it thinks its being poisoned so you vomit. Its a survival thing. Thats why people get sea sick. Inner ears feel motion, but eyes see no motion. So your body says why? There is no explanation so you are probably poison. Get rid of it...PUKE!!!! so yeah. I bought TrackHat. Now if it will ship already haha
FireManDan Posted May 16, 2018 Author Posted May 16, 2018 I have another question everyone. I have my HOTAS set up for the A10C, however my HatTrack (TrackIR) hasnt shipped yet and I want to get flying. I would like to use my mouse to look around while still being able to click on the control switches as well as zoom. So. Many. View. Controls. Help?
