Am I missing something in all the promo videos or is it not yet implemented in the pre-release press versions of the F18C?

Thanks Retu, Im still unsure of what the relevant symbology is supposed to represent though. Can anyone clarify?

The three carets represent Rmax (at 6 o clock on the circle), Rne (or DLZ) and Rmin (both at 3 o clock) - the tape unwinds to represent current range. I'm not sure why in that image Rne and Rmin are right next to each other (possible it's not 100% working yet).

In fact, either they've massively improved the AIM-7 or (more likely) it's just not working yet - that's displaying Rmax for the AIM-7 at 4,650ft at about 20 miles on a cold target.

Ok, thanks for the clarification people. The F18C always looked a bit daunting to me with its many systems, etc. but the more videos I watch and the more info I find out all the systems seem to be very straightforward and logical. It will require a bit more hands off flying than Im used to from say the Mirage2000C or any of the FC3 planes, but it doesn't look as nearly as complicated as it appears at first glance to be.

Where are you seeing a range of 20 miles indicated on the target? Im not seeing that on the HUD anywhere. (Im still learning)

Sytem Specs: Asus armor Z170 mobo, Intel 6700k i7 chip, gtx 1080, 32g DDR4, 800watt pws, Win10, Samsung NVME M.2 256G Drive, 1T Samsung Evo SSD, 250G Corsair SSD, Asus 4k 28" 60hz Monitor, Oculus Rift, WarthogTM stick and throttle, CH rudder pedals

The little indent inside the circle is his current range to target (which is 9.3nm as stated on the hud), I'm just doing a rough guesstimate of how far it is to Rmax from there, which is roughly double.

I think an accurate Rmax on the AIM7 ingame would be something more like 6-7 miles on a cold target (you can tell he's cold because the hornet is going 474 knots, but closing speed is only 220 knots). If you go to 11:10 on the video that's when he first locks the target up at 19.8nm, but the hud is showing it as inside of Rmax (so it looks like the Rmax, or any of those indicators, aren't working correctly).

It also says he's gone beyond minimum range (which is why the X starts flashing on the hud) when he goes below 3 miles, which can't be right either.

Thats not an accurate estimation, because the DLZ circle is non-linear. I believe Rmax1 is always at the bottom of the circle, regardless of the max range of the missile (ie the bottom of the circle wont always represent 20 miles or any specific range). Also that image is WIP.

Here's the real deal

Is there supposed to be a steering dot, to get a good angle on target, in the F-18?

HOTAS: Thrustmaster Warthog

PC: it's much better now
