Hello all. Am I missing something? I can't get the ALE-47 to power on at all. I put the dispenser switch in the on position, and I just keep getting the X over the ALE-47 on the EW page. I've turned master arm on, I've done the BIT on the RWR. What gives?

On the ground I suspect? For whatever reason, you can't adjust anything on the EW page while weight is on wheels. If in air, I don't know because you have done the steps exactly to turn on power.

Are you supposed to not be able to program the EW with WOW? It makes more sense to do it before take off rather than on the ingress.

Could be that the way we have it in the sim is realistic and pilots in real life don’t have to adjust settings on the ground anyways because they have them loaded on those data cartridges.

That's a trick question, how it is really done is via DTC. Since we don't have that, we have a lot of tools available in the cockpit. No clue on how ED further plans to enable the editing of the EW stuff.

About the master arm thingy. I can't find it now anymore, but in one of the podcasts of the Fighter Pilot on YouTube, the host (hornet driver) mentioned that master arms needs to be on for countermeasure release, depending on the version. So I guess it's applicable for some a/c, and not the others, but I've no clue how it should be on ours in particular.

Just piggybacking on this one since it was brought up again in one of the podcasts, apparently the -47 doesn't require the switch to be armed...so if they don't have the answer already maybe they can reattack with him and make sure the functions are correct. The NATOPS manual refers to it having to be on, but since they went with an undated CM system, perhaps that's one are that will vary from what's in the manual.

About 39 minutes in.

Hi all,

Just for me to understand: one cannot edit on the ground the countermeasures program?

Best

That's correct - for now, at least. I seem to remember this being discussed on The Fighter Pilot Podcast and Jell-O saying that CM programs had to be sorted in the "hell-hole" behind the seat, though that may have been on older systems, my memory is failing me just now.

Wags has mentioned a data cartridge of sorts in another thread, so we may get some kind of interface to program these before flight in the future.
