Nealius Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Occasionally on Nevada, and only Nevada, I will have crashes where the mission will fail to load after about 40% loaded. When I try to open Task Manager to kill the program, the DCS 2.5 splash screen will not minimize, and I cannot bring Task Manager to the front to kill the program. I'm forced to sign out/hard restart my PC and redo everything when this happens. The Nevada crashing behavior has been a longstanding issue on my computer since 2.2 Open Alpha, but this splash screen failing to yield to other windows like Task Manager is something new with 2.5 for me.

Hovis Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 To kill process use ctrl alt dlt to open task manager, use alt tab or windows key to bring up taskbar and click the task manager icon, once its lit (selected) you can hover mouse over the window and use arrow keys, tab and delete key to kill the process. Saves you hard resetting every time

Nealius Posted June 2, 2018 Author Posted June 2, 2018 (edited) Attaching DCS.log and Dxdiag. The actual crash has been an issue ever since 2.2 Open Alpha, and only affects NTTR. I have done countless cleanups, repairs, complete wipes and reinstalls on three different harddrives and the problem just won't go away. The log always quits on this line: (dDispatcher)enterToState_:4 Windows Event Viewer says "Application Hang" but does not identify any faults. It's starting to happen on Caucasus now as well, primarily with the Hornet. In the past I never had issues with the Harrier. Edited June 2, 2018 by Nealius
Nealius Posted June 2, 2018 Author Posted June 2, 2018 Additional info: I decided to wait the apphang and see if anything happened. Got a hard crash this time with a different log file.

Nealius Posted June 2, 2018 Author Posted June 2, 2018 No difference, unfortunately. I have noticed that if I click the screen and allow the Windows "This program has stopped responding" dialogue to pop up, and click "Wait for program to respond" it will usually load. However, on one instance as soon as it loaded me into the cockpit DCS spontaneously exited to desktop with no notifications. The crashes are becoming more and more frequent. Prior to 2.5.2 Update 2 I rarely had any crashes at all.
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted June 2, 2018 ED Team Posted June 2, 2018 Try my crash advice below. first load after will take a long time, over 5 minutes sometimes. Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Nealius Posted June 2, 2018 Author Posted June 2, 2018 This isn't the first load, though. This sometimes happens on the third load, or other random times. It's particularly troublesome when editing missions and running them to check things. Often when I wait, I get an "Unfortunately DCS.exe has crashed" error anyway, so even if I do wait it still would not load.
Nealius Posted June 15, 2018 Author Posted June 15, 2018 This is still a major problem with my NTTR, and none of the crash advice has solved it. I can fly one mission perfectly fine, then the next time the program will hang. I am unable to switch to other windows using alt-tab or the task manager. Trying to click on the X to close the window with the alt-tab keys held down does not work either--the program refuses to shut down. I am forced to sign out of my PC account and sign back in every single time this happens.
