Fuelburner Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 (edited) I tried an instant action case 1 carrier landing flight. The weight is about 30.000. To maintain a 3 degree glide to the carrier with flaps set to full gear and hook down I need 91 percent power to maintain the speed ??? What the heck ??? Zabuzard Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Did you trim correct first? Don't fight against the computer. Can you provide a track or video? You shouldn't have such problems if you are doing it correct.
Fuelburner Posted June 9, 2018 Author Posted June 9, 2018 The trim has no effect on the power you need to stay on the profile. Anyhow I trimmed the plane correctly. Gesendet von iPhone mit Tapatalk
gekoiq Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 full flaps and gear down = very draggy bird, perfectly normal that you need more power to stay aloft.
majapahit Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 .. I need 91 percent power to maintain the speed ??? What the heck ??? Did you successfully land? seems a bit much, your A/P was Off? (with "A" not only mode Off) your ATC was Off? (with "A" no blinking 'ATC' in the HUD) ? | VR goggles | Autopilot panel | Headtracker | TM HOTAS | G920 HOTAS | MS FFB 2 | Throttle Quadrants | 8600K | GTX 1080 | 64GB RAM| Win 10 x64 | Voicerecognition | 50" UHD TV monitor | 40" 1080p TV monitor | 2x 24" 1080p side monitors | 24" 1080p touchscreen |

Nealius Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Speedbrake automatically retracts with flaps down. Doesn't NATOPs say something like "approximately 86-88% RPM" to be on-speed? +3% doesn't seem like that big of a difference.
oreste Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 you should first avoid landing with a lot of fuel, usually at the end of a mission the plane has almost finished the fuel and has downloaded the bombs / missiles.Specially a plane taking off and landing from an aircraft carrier must take into account the weight of the weapons / fuel otherwise it risks ruining failure. Vertical take-off aircraft must take off with low fuel if they have many weapons and refuel in flight from a tanker at a later time.Good flight! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]My dream: DCS Tornado
92nd-MajorBug Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 It depends on the weight but usually with everything stable the rpm sits at 88-89%, so maybe with slightly more weight 91% sounds about right. With 8.1° of aoa, full flaps and gear down, the plane has some huge drag. On one hand that limits the number of attempts you can do before you run out of fuel, on the other that means you can get full burners way quicker, should you need them. 92nd Kodiak Air Force - May the Greuh be with you

SCU Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 See this post and video HERE if you are struggling with setting up the F-18 for landing using the onspeed AOA indicator and trim. We should wait till trim behaviour in landing configuration is improved. This is just a workaround. A RL Hornet pilot confirmed ED knows about it and that they're working on it.
