MrReynolds Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Afternoon all, My Throttle started to "cut-out" during gameplay. Stopping and running TARGET again fixed it, but I decided to check the firmware. I started the update procedure, but it "hung" when preparing, so I stopped the process. Nothing seemed to have started. I'm pretty sure I started up DCS and all was fine. I played something else, and now - to my surprise the joystick is now longer working. I have uninstalled both the drivers and TARGET. Reinstalling only gets the throttle recognised. I have tried manually flashing the firmware upon a restart ( http://ts.thrustmaster.com/faqs/eng/thr_eng_00136.pdf ). When I do this, I hear the du.dududu....of a USB connection, but no driver install popup. Now. Here's the weird thing. Windows sees the joystick in the Human interface devices, but NOT the throttle. However, TARGET only sees the throttle. In the Windows game controller list the throttle is recognised (and works) but not the joystick....... I'm beginning to panic now as I really hope the joystick isn't dead!! Any help or advice will be most greatly appreciated - and just as I was nailing those pesky carrier landings!!!!
bradleyjs Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 I ran into the same problem a few months ago and working with TM we weren’t able to solve the issue. They wanted gobs of money to send it back to repair and who knows when it would be returned. I’ve had that stick since 2009 and it has always worked perfectly. So, I ordered a new one from walmart.com and it was relatively cheap and arrived in two days free shipping. MrReynolds Posted June 10, 2018 Author Posted June 10, 2018 (edited) Thanks for the bad news ;) I can't really afford a new joystick as I was saving for pedals and maybe a new graphics card.................. - and like you I've had it for years! Just run the firmware update and get a bootloader failure code 0x00000000c So.......... Also - Thrustmaster do recognise a dead formware - although there is no mention of windows 10. Maybe if I find a Windows 7 machine it could flash it???? Edited June 10, 2018 by MrReynolds
bradleyjs Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Yeah, I couldn’t get past the bootloader issue. I assume an integrated circuit chip inside the stick just gave up and died. Also, my house got hit by lightning many months ago and fried several TVs and some other electronic devices - I thought that was a contributing factor. But who knows? Here in central FL we get lots of lightning. Maybe if I find a Windows 7 machine it could flash it???? I had the same problem a couple of years ago. I contacted Thrustmaster support who were pretty helpful and suggested that I buy a new main circuit board and replace it. I can't remember how much it cost but it wasn't too expensive. They sent it to me and when it arrived, it was a simple job to replace the original and it fixed the problem. I think the main board in the throttle is a bit prone to failure after some time. It's always worth unplugging the throttle when you're not using it. I too thought about too many USBs - so have taken lots out. Didn't go as far as to try a clean computer. However.....Shall we say the stick has taken a knock and has physically....broken now. Snapped off from the base. If it did get working again it would have to have to really powerful glue holding it on lol.... Edited June 11, 2018 by MrReynolds
Aluminum Donkey Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 Afternoon all, My Throttle started to "cut-out" during gameplay. Windows sees the joystick in the Human interface devices, but NOT the throttle. I don't have the Warthog, but I do have the TM Cougar. In my own experience, and many, many others', Thrustmaster makes very cool, very expensive, JUNK. My Cougar was incessantly plagued with various stupid glitches and problems. Finally, in disgust, I ripped out the Cougar's electronics and completely re-fitted it with Leo Bodnar's BU0836A control board. Works like an absolute champ now, much higher axis resolution/better control, and no drivers or BS needed to get it to work. Man, was that ever a LOT of soldering! Whew!
