Is there a way to 'create a TACAN station at one of the fields that does not already have it?

On the Caucasus map there are only 6 fields with TACAN and I'm working on a Training Mission to basically 'deliver the mail' to many different airfields as a means of practicing approach & landings for both A-10 & F/A-18.

I don't want to set them up as Waypoints.

You could set an aircraft, like say the E-2D on the ramp with a hot start and put a truck in front of it, it shouldn't move and will transmit the TACAN, not sure If that is viable or will even work, it should though. You could make it look like it is being serviced I suppose and put some infantry near it.

I think one can also add custom beacons into this file:

 

C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\terrains\Caucasus\Beacons.lua

 

But I also suspect it will only work in SP or be client side only in MP and probably not pass integrity check if joining MP server.

Yes, but this will break Integrity in Multiplayer. Not withstanding potential issues with the Sim.

Guys, SP is just fine...I had no plans of this 'mission' as an MP. As I said I just want to create additional TACAN beacons so I (and perhaps others) can fly around the the Caucasus and practice & perfect navigation, approach and landings, especially with the F/A-18. I enjoy that map because of the differences in terrains (coastal to rugged mountains) but get bored of the same 6 TACANS presently operating.

 

I'll look into the Beacons.lua but anything you think of please advise.

I agree. Kind of the ideas that you ask yourself why you didn't think about it before. The only issue I see is that in order to work the TACAN would have to be set to A/A mode.

F/A-18, F-16, F-14, M-2000C, A-10C, AV-8B, AJS-37 Viggen, F-5E-3, F-86F, MiG-21bis, MiG-15bis, L-39 Albatros, C-101 Aviojet, P-51D, Spitfire LF Mk. IX, Bf 109 4-K, UH-1H, Mi-8, Ka-50, NTTR, Normandy, Persian Gulf... and not enough time to fully enjoy it all

I'm curious, if TACAN is line of sight, why would you need to be in A/A mode? I thought TACAN is TACAN at any altitude.

Aircraft use different channels (**Y instead of **X).

 

Go into the Mission Editor. Select the plane and look into the advanced Waypoint actions (in this case WP 0).

Either TACAN is preselected (in the list).

If not there should be an option available.

WOW thanks the idea

 

Working TACAN in MOZDOK for me:

 

1. place S-3B tanker

2. set to takeoff from parking HOT

3. remove ALL fuel :smilewink:

this created a A/A 1X TACAN station, non moving, on ramp, with pilots

 

optional:

4. edit the initial waypoint's advanced waypoint actions

you must know: 1Y A/A is working, but if you change the number and use the Y channel

in editor in F18 you must seek that number in the X channel (current DCS behaviour)

 

(caucasian tacans: 16X,22x,25x,31x,44x,67x; if you overdefine the closest will appear)

Thanks. Some of these threads that are seen here on the forums just get washed away from the newer ones, becoming ignored. As long as it is occasionally brought back up for relevance, then it does have a chance at getting past the others as a more highlighted topic.
