Well that's just plain wrong ... where'd you get -that- idea?

The F-22 will happily move its nose about like a devil if you want it to. That's what the TVC is all about.

 

 

 

Anyone can lead a turn. With the Raptor's sustained 60 deg AoA, no ONLY is he going to out-turn you thanks to that big, low-loading wing, but he'll gonna keep you in the pipper even if he blows all his speed away doing it.

Just wach some videos of the raptor and the su-30mki or mig-29otv , and tell me if the raptor pich is faster than the others (example- f-22 corbra, it is slower) , and I never say that I'm right or wrong , It is just my opinion. Nobody answer anything about the drag generated by the f-22 wing. About the lead turn: I wasn't thinking about a sustained turn rates or alhpa, because we don't know those numbers for neither the raptor or the sukhoi.

F-22 isn't doing a cobra ... it's showing you slow-speed controllability, so pitch will naturally be slower. The Cobra REQUIRES a very fast pitch-up to actually achieve, otherwise you'll just fly up, which is what the Raptor is doing.

 

As for sustained turn-rates ... and Alpha? Su-27 - 30 AoA, dunnot if its sustainable (Su-30 might sustain it) ... F-22 - 60 AoA, sustainable.

 

Turn rates - especially instantaneous - are dictated by wing area and wing loading typically, so you can sort of tell. Sustained turns go into GvTHrust as well, IIRC.

 

Someone who knows better can hopefuly step in and correct me.

I wonder what some of you are going to change the subject to when the inevitable day comes? Sonner or later the news that a raptor did such & such and performed brilliantly will be out there. Most likely it will be a mission that "it couldn't do" "was untested, unproven" blah blah...

Im quite happy to wait for the day to come that it proves it worth, but in the meantime im happy to accept that it is an extremely excellent piece of Engineering, but certainly won't start claiming a load of tosh that I can't possibly know. I wonder that if the unfortunate day came that an F-22 got shot down you would come forward and admit how overzealous you were, I think not.

... But no seriously. If it got shot down after taking out 8 bandits I'd say it did its job. It's not a bad exchange ratio. Better yet, if in a 4v24 we were to lose 1 Raptor, I'd call that an incredible exchange ratio - well worth the $$

I'm not being overzealous. If anything- I'm moderating the FICTION that gets pasted all over this forum by certain people who are OBSESSED with trashing ALL things USAF, USN-and, let's be honest here- US.

 

Find one post from me that states that an F22 is never going to go down. Maybe by fire- maybe by failure. If it's made by man- it's imperfect. All I'm saying is enough of the speculation and wishful thinking FICTION being stated as though it has a fingernail in fact. Some of you are literally making things up to suit your bias.

 

FACT: The Mig 31 is faster than an F22 and can employ a longer range Air to air weapon. (R-33.) FICTION: Therefore it is much more effective at taking out a fleet of bombers as an example.

 

Or- plane "X" can carry more fuel than the raptor- therefore it has longer range. Not neccessarily true. Raptor's efficiency means going farther on the same fuel.

 

Simply put if you have a fact- say it! I don't care if it's better than US plane "X" if it's TRUE.

 

This type of poll & thread is STUPID because many of you can't or don't want to differentiate what's real and what's your own opinion.

It doesn't need to. The pitch ladder and target aspect tell the tale, no video needed to see that only a golden BB would have hit the Raptor in a shot like that. :D

 

I am not sure the performance of the Hornet at the speed its at, but based on what I see, I would think that Raptor got the advantage after the pic rather quickly.

 

The Hornet would have to roll and follow to gain speed, where the Raptor is already heading down and should have plenty of energy.

The reason the nose snaps so much faster on the Su-30 is because it has briefly departed controlled flight. Not particularly useful when you're actually trying to point the nose (as opposed to quickly snapping it to some random position at the mercy of gravity and aerodynamics.) :D

 

Im intrigued that people think the cobra and other low speed stunts will save their lives. yet I dont see it hapening in this game even after knowing western missiles will definaly loose lock if they do.

But it was only a "Hey I wonder if this will work", kinda thing.

Yeah butttt.. Naval Aviator's are specially trained in the art of Platinum BB shots ;). Anyway .. why did the F22 fly below the hard deck during the fight?? Maybe he knew it was going to be pretty embarrassing so he dived below 10K which means he effectively hit the ground which also means the Navy pilot BFMed him into the ground which is still a legitimate kill :D . So if the F18 pilot was reprimanded then the F22 pilot should now be flying a cargo plane full of rubber "you know what" :P .
