Wazoo Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 I picked this headset up and it is amazing for DCS. Just thought I'd let people know about the sale as I never see it for below $499. i7-7700k eVGA 1080 Ti Win 10 Pro Samsung Odyssey WMR Warthog HOTAS
Gman109 Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Great deal - I just bought a set used for a good deal here in Canada, if I was in the USA I'd be getting cracking on this deal before they sell out. And I agree, the Odyssey is fantastic, a step up from the Rift and Vive for certain in my opinion. GucciJetDRVR Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 I have a microcenter 20 minutes away from my house. So tempted to give this a try. Is it really a noticeable step up from the rift and also is the tracking up to par with the rift? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wazoo Posted June 29, 2018 Author Posted June 29, 2018 (edited) I have a microcenter 20 minutes away from my house. So tempted to give this a try. Is it really a noticeable step up from the rift and also is the tracking up to par with the rift? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I never owned a Rift or Vive... but all I can say is I'm REALLY impressed with the Samsung. I've been sucked into Elite Dangerous of late as the feeling of flying a spaceship is incredible. I've also flown around Nellis in the A-10 and I had to pick my jaw off the ground. MFD's are readable (although better when using VR zoom) and the feeling of flight is ridiculous. Worth an upgrade? That I can't answer. But if you *don't* yet have a VR headset, Vive Pro visuals, easy setup, no external sensors, all for $399 seems like a no-brainer to me if you are in the market for a VR headset. Now if only I could easily flip switches in the cockpit.... ;) *Edit - Oh... and as you probably know... Microcenter has a great return policy (at least the one here in Southern California). If you don't think it is worth the upgrade, you could always return it. Edited June 29, 2018 by Wazoo Added info i7-7700k eVGA 1080 Ti Win 10 Pro Samsung Odyssey WMR Warthog HOTAS

Is it really a noticeable step up from the rift and also is the tracking up to par with the rift? Yes and yes. Controller tracking drops out if they are not within view of the cameras on the front of the unit but they snap right back once they are back in view. the gyros and sensors in them are very good so there is no issue pulling a magazine or weapon off your belt without looking down. nervousenergy Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Damn... bought one at full price last week. Oh well... it's still worth it at $499. $100 less? If you don't have a VR set and want to try it, this is the way to go. DCS is incredible, Elite is incredible, BoS/M is amazing though the flight model isn't as good (visuals, though, are smooth as SILK). Anyone want a used TIR5? It's getting unplugged and uninstalled this weekend. I can't fly without the Odyssey, regardless of any spotting shortcomings. GucciJetDRVR Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Samsung Odyssey WMR headset on sale for $399 at Microcenter.com I already have a rift with a room scale setup and I’m extremely happy with it until the next gen stuff comes in the next year or two. Jw if the differences between the two are worth the price as of now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Jw if the differences between the two are worth the price as of now. Yeah same here, can't give up my room scale tracking. I love the positional tracking with my Rift. Really looking forward to their next gen as well. Wazoo Posted June 29, 2018 Author Posted June 29, 2018 For what it's worth, tracking while simming has been an absolute non-issue for me. ED dogfights with my head cranked as far as it will go behind me has been no problem at all. For room scale, I have about a 7x7 foot area mapped out and also, very rarely lose positional tracking. Crushing RoboRecall, loved Rick & Morty, and suck at but love Space Pirate Trainer. Only real tracking issue I've found is if my controllers stay behind my back for an extended period of time or sometimes if they are too low. But honestly, for the same visual quality of a Vive Pro, and *especially* for simming (Project Cars 2 in my 6DOF motion platform is f**king nuts!), this product at $399 is hard to beat. i7-7700k eVGA 1080 Ti Win 10 Pro Samsung Odyssey WMR Warthog HOTAS

Sniper175 Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 I have both rift and the samsung. Will say the room tracking is better in the odyssey only issue i have had in fo4 vr or skyrim vr is ya you may lose tracking of your hands when headset does not seem them. With the odyssey you need to have your room have a good amount of geometric features hence it doesnt track well on flat wall and surfaces. I7-8700 @5GHZ, 32GB 3000MHZ RAM, 1080TI, Rift S, ODYSSEY +. Thick8 Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Interesting, that is good. Reports seem to be somewhat varied on this. You have to have a room with stuff on the walls or furniture, and it has to be fairly well lit. Just bare walls or with a repeating pattern wall paper won’t do. I think that is why some people have issues. I can't *imagine* flying DCS without it.... or ED. X-Plane 11 is fantastic VFR.... however... as a real world IFR student, I don't use VR as I need to reference charts and heavily work the GPS for navigation. i7-7700k eVGA 1080 Ti Win 10 Pro Samsung Odyssey WMR Warthog HOTAS
GucciJetDRVR Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 My microcenter just posted an open box odyssey that’s guaranteed to be as good as new for 339.00. I pulled the trigger. Going to pick it up later today. I’ll let you guys know what I think if I decide to keep it or return it and stay with my rift. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
TheThumper Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 Mine arrived yesterday... really enjoying the immersion. GucciJetDRVR Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 Samsung Odyssey WMR headset on sale for $399 at Microcenter.com Well my initial impressions coming from the rift were awful. I’m about to send it back and stay with my oculus. This thing runs like garbage and isn’t as comfortable as the rift. What settings is everyone using with their odyssey(pd, in game graphics)? I have no clue how to configure this with steam vr other then just getting it to run so maybe I’m not doing something right. Also I ended getting a brand new one for 340. I guess someone made an inventory error and posted an opened box item for sale by accident. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
