Pilotasso Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 Granted this is just an early mockup. We are not going to see the final product for 7 years. And if tradition is followed with the usual development drama add 10 more to that :D Fa6X8mGq6Nk Desirable features: -Stealth (doh) -Manned or unmanned missions options -AI powered with swarm tactics -laser weapons -Affordable -Maintainable -available for export -Tailess and canardless delta configuration -Internal weapon bays? (not mentioned) To be developed in cooperation with BAE, MBDA and LEAONARDO. My impressions: This is massively ambitious for the time frame announced (to have the first jet built by 2025 and entering service 10 years after). The airframe looks very small, perhaps the size of a JAS39. I think they will run into alot of trouble and increase the jets size and cost many times over. The uncertainty of BREXIT and France+Germany developing their own will put alot of pressure on the UK's design. I dont think cancellation is an option this time. It will be massively interesting. I wonder how the partnership will look like at the end (remember france pulling out of EFA?). Too bad I will be an old man by the time it comes to fruition. One last observation: Spain wanted to get in for the French/German plane, their request was DENIED. .
TLTeo Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 If Leonardo is in it I wonder if Italy will get involved too.
joey45 Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 Stealth and Affordable on the same list?? What's the life of the Tiffy in RAF service? The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. jojo Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 I disagree about small/ Gripen size. It's a twin engine aircraft, if on top of that there is a weapon bay it will be way higher than Gripen. While it can be logical for France, Germany, Spain and Sweden to launch their stealth fighter design, I can't see how UK could sustain the development of a new project and procure the F-35 at the same time ? However UK can certainly design a demonstrator, flying with EJ200 engine and some systems from the Typhoon. Finally France & Germany didn't say no to Spain. They said "not now". What has been said is that they want to freeze some requirements and parameters to satisfy their need. After that I think the project can be opened to wider cooperation. Mirage fanatic ! Boris Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 Great, looks like any other stealth fighter. Is it jus me, or is all the aviation charm gone out of stealth designs? Pilotasso Posted July 17, 2018 Author Posted July 17, 2018 Its the way of the future my friend. When we got the F-18 people said multifunction displays and computerized controls were the new fad. .
