Does the real F/A-18C Lot 20 have the ability to display SAM threat rings pre-programmed during the mission planning phase and loaded via the data cartridge?

If so, was there any talk about bringing this to DCS Hornet eventually?

My bad:music_whistling:

You want to draw the rings in the editor/mission planner and have them seen on the DDI map screen. Gotcha....Yes that would be nice, perhaps after the dedi server this would be very good for MP co-op's.

I assume you mean like the F-16 can on the HSD, as you've probably seen in another popular sim. The Hornet does have an equivalent page (the Situation Awareness page), but no idea if it can show ground threats and their rings - if it could, it wouldn't be able to do it on the fly as it doesn't have the HTS pod, but would have to be in a data cartridge or something like that like you suggest.

That’s a clutter issue and a range issue. RWRs cannot calculate range based on signal strength alone (as these can be varied by the emitter), only bearing, and can display that bearing only generally.

We keeps it real here.

Who said anything about RWR? Read again. :)

This is a pre-planned thing or done via a specific pod.

Exactly like that. Pre-planned via DTC on various aircraft like F-16 or A-10C with newer suites.

*That's a thesis paper about integrating tactical imagery in Super Hornet, bubba. The systems are not alike.

Bummer. They are extremly useful in the F-16 :(

Anyway to remove the threat ring once the radar is destroyed?

Yes, I`ve noticed that also. When im destroying SAMs, their rings still stays...

afaik, the SAM position and range are pre-briefed values, imported into the flight computer before flight

if so, they are not updated in flight

Uhmm...thats not bad, but what if they are mobile SAMs (SA-6, SA-11...)?

And they change their positions?

The SA page will not update to the new position

Roger, but in the other sim, I was able to remove threat rings...yes data cartridge. I'm guessing we will have that capability once we get the data cartridge....Can anyone confirm if that will be the case?

Possibly there will be an option in the coming SA subpage(s) that will let you turn them off. At least there is a declutter function coming that I don't know exactly what it will declutter.
