I love it when people call their box a CPU.:megalol:

Your "CPU" is not a case. Your case is a case. Your "CPU" is the Central Processing Unit. It is the brain of the computer. While you could probably put a drink on it (like your case) I would not recommend it. The "CPU" is also not the "hard drive". The "hard drive" is where data is stored on a computer.

Driver corruption can happen yes. Very rarely however would it wreak enough havoc to cause the need for a re-format and re-install of the "OS" on your "Hard Drive". That is what safe mode is for. To bypass problematic drivers so you can fix things up if they go wrong.

Who is this "support" you speak of? On what diagnosis did they base the need to do a re-format and a re-install on?

I hope they are not a doctor because it sounds like they do not know their @ss from their elbow.

In my professional opinion is there was some gross over reaction at play here.

Yes we did try it in safe mode! It kept freezing up.After 2 hrs of TRYING to fix the problem in safe mode it kept freezing up!Seeing I could not reinstall the drivers because it would freeze up.

Why not a non destructive repair install then?

Of course it is reasonable if nothing else works. But that is just it. I spend my days fixing machines where people swear nothing else would work. It is reasonable to re-format and re-install if it is less work then actually fixing the issue or you are too thrifty to hire some one who can fix it for you and would rather spend your time then your money. But of course you do so at your own risk. And you must accept the risk of screwing up your own computer and blaming it on everything but your own potential lack of knowledge. I see it every day. Of course I realize that this may not be the case in this situation. Still a non destructive repair install would probably have worked and he would have lost no data.

Sorry if too harsh fellas. I am jaded by my daily experiences with many self proclaimed computer techs.:music_whistling:

Iguana is correct. Attempt system restore first for a big fat maybe. Then I would try non destructive repair install. If that failed (very rarely does) then it's on to the big kahuna.

Saitek Drivers,

I had the same problem when I re-installed my Saitek Drivers.

I was experiencing some problems with the accuracy of the stick.

Seems the uninstall program that is part of the Saitek Drivers install

removes the MSVCRT.dll and MSVCP60.dll from Windows/system32 folder.

When the system reboots you will not see a text message about the missing

files unless your Auto-reboot on system failure is turned off.

Then you will see a text message that shows the missing .dll files.

You have to copy them to the windows\system32 folder using the XP

Recovery Console which is the XP Dos system.

After copying the files my system was good as new.

Regards,

Once a... human :D said that his computer (I help him buy) was c.r.a.p. cause it gives a lot of problems... he went to a "service" in another town (hey, more different specialists opinions never hurt) and they said: "The PC was bought from a shady ventor (shure... the third in Romania and a competitor for the one that own that service), all parts in it are c.r.a.p. or literaly melted and nothing can be done...". Ofcourse they managed to convince my... human that it should buy another copy of the OS :megalol: .

Needless to say that the same PC is running now back to base in the hometown of my... human flawlessly but, operated by different user :P. The replacement PC has all sorts of "problems"... naturaly.

The XP OS now can be repaired almost as an old car in which there is always a small workshop that has the solution and the "spareparts". The repair install is one of the most used methods if "system restore" fails to do its job. If even messing with the file system on a working computer still fail to do the job there are always tools to jumpstart the thing.

just my 2c

PS... I'm glad "it was" Saitek and not SF

Yeah.. I'm going through some real issues with my gaming system right now...

For some stupid reason I disabled my Internet connection and then I couldn't enable it again..

So after trying to reformat and getting the proverbial txtsetup.oem error about 15 times I just decided to dump my commando mobo and I'm going back to the 680i again. Hopefully I'll be able to get this to install properly this time..

Everything was running fine until I tried to install a bogus addon for one of the other flight sims that I sometimes fly...

I should have know better...:music_whistling:
