DCS.log files may provide insight into performance/stutter issues?

Greetings everyone,

A look at my dcs.log shows lots & lots of ERROR messages, many of them related to "model" files not found.

For example:

I'm also getting this one a lot:

My problem in the sim is that I always get stuttering when something happens, usually combat-related such as A2A kills, someone ejecting, or parts of aircraft breaking off as an opponent (or ally!) goes down in flames.

The sim seems to be having problems finding what it needs as things happen in missions--various assets that are needed for animations and effects. The sim still works, but stutters since it has to search for assets instead of knowing where to find them right away.

That's why I'm considering wiping out my entire DCS install and reinstalling everything from scratch, but that's a major nuisance since all I want to do is repair it.

I have a suspicion that there may be Windows registry entries that are missing, which DCS uses to "point" to specific files in compressed archives, but since I've re-installed my OS, those registry entries are no longer there--so DCS has to search large compressed archives looking for data, which causes stutters.

Anyone have any insight here (especially anyone at ED with some spare time)? I'd really rather not do an entire reinstall of DCS, but if that's what it takes, so be it.

I have stutters too for example when ejecting, even tough I just reinstalled DCS and OS....

Yeah, I just wiped out my NVMe drive and I'm reinstalling DCS... doesn't seem to make much of any difference. Imma stick with the Release version for now instead of OB, but haven't noticed much improvement yet.

I did it just to try it.

Now I've got 100 GB of stuff left to DL! :huh:

I had noticed this. There are items in the assets that seem to always get errors loading. And I've seen these errors for a long time now, since DCS 2.5 was launched at least.

Working in a totally different field, if I find these errors in logs, it's always about wrong file location addresses. It's not finding the files because, for example, the file was renamed or relocated to another folder. This may be it.

And, to be honest, it's a fairly simple process to edit the string or just move or rename the affected files. Doesn't sound like hard work.

So I just may be wrong and this could a deeper issue. Like the loading of these files failing in the core programming. Either way, it's persistent and I agree this could be a cousa for some of the stutters.

Oh man, much as I love the new content, the good folks at ED are gonna have to get off the bowl and iron all this out soon. It's aggravating a *lot* of people, especially ones that spent more on their computers than I ever spent on a car :)
