hi,

I was wondering if in future games if there will be more theaters or plans

I would love to see the following locations myself,

a. Afganistan for both the A-10 and SU-25

b. Chechinya (may be)

c. Soth East asia or Latin America for the jungle location

e. some thing around Alaska for the artic location

f. balakans could be added to the existing map

for a map editor of some sort so the comunity could add locations.

They're adding more map area to the east (for Black Shark) to include Turkey.

Turkey is to the South of the Black Sea, or do you mean the Eastern Portion?

Would this include new textures or would it be a case of same texture environment effectively but with a different mesh beneath?

From a screenshot I recall seeing a while ago (on the Russian Forum), the new map area for Black Shark extends the Georgian territory from its present southern limit of Ochamchira (on the coast) down to the Turkish border at Batumi. From this screenie it appears it might also extend the map slightly to the East in this region? The Lockon eastern limit down here is a North/South line between the small Svanetian towns of Mestia and Lentekhi. Looking at the screenie it extends as far East as Chiatura which is perhaps another 30+ miles east?

The location of the dam is actualy on the present map ( altough the dam itselfe isn't ).

The screen of the new map area is great, have missed that one. Tough how good gameplay the new area offers remains to be seen. It is manly mountainus area, which offers little operating area for the manly vehicle centric target selection we currently have. It isn't realy the terrain to have armoured warfare on it, which currently is the central point of Lock On's vehicles. I hope ED also supplements the correct target set for that type of terrain, like MG nests, mortar positions, dug-in positions, improvised fortresses, entrances for various underground facilitys etc. And obviously infantry, even if only static ( а la Stinger/Igla guy ).

That's spooky, I was listening to that They Might Be Giants album only yesterday. Great link - hadn't seen that video before - ROFL.

2 things that I noticed:

1/ (not really anything to do with the quote, but) you can't tell from that screenshot how far the map has been extended - the map goes blank at the edges in the ME & there's no sign of that in the pic, so there's at least a bit more that we can't see.

2/ The screen shot shows what looks to me to be a relatively densely populated area (without any huge cities to kill the FPS) that, as can be seen from this pic, is surrounded by mountains, but is mostly the river valley of the Rioni River, which is a couple of hundred kilometres long & fairly flat.

"The Rioni River, the largest river in western Georgia, rises in the Greater Caucasus and empties into the Black Sea at the port of Poti. Soviet engineers turned the river lowlands along the Black Sea coast into prime subtropical agricultural land, embanked and straightened many stretches of river, and built an extensive system of canals."

So I'm guessing there's rolling hills & buildings in towns for cover, but open enough spaces for mechanised infantry etc to roll around in.

Also - the river seems on the ME screenshot to be an extension of the sea rather than just a river.

Does this mean that the river is navigable to smaller naval vessels ?

Just as a general discussion about terrain - reasonably flat terrain has some advantages for BS, but with the pressent graphics engine we can't really have massed tank battles - we have a fair bit of flat terrain already & really - flat terrain is flat terrain. As long as you've got the various sizes of city/town/hamlet/village covered, it all looks the same except for the colour, & outside the urban areas, if it's flat enough that there's nowhere to hide, then any variation in gameplay comes from how the units are deployed & the where is less important. As long as there's enough of the flat to allow that to be done, then I don't see that gameplay is improved by adding more, & adding non-flat terrain adds variation to the missions purely by virtue of the different topography. Fighting a group of units in a narrow valley presents different challenges to attacking the same group in a wide valley or on gently rolling terrain.

As does deploying the ground units effectively.

There are screenshots of new AAA units - both on trucks & stationary that will be welcome additions to BS. Hopefully there will also be at least a limited amount of infantry - perhaps the IGLA/Stinger guys with Ak47's & the same with RPG's (unguided, that can be set to target ground units, but will fire at anything airborne within range that is travelling at less than some speed? It might also be a useful thing if they could be flagged as visible or invisible to other ground units, to simulate their being able to take cover without making them actually mobile, & avoid their all disapearing into a column of smoke as soon as the first bit of armour appears)

Cheers.
