I'd say. Software support wise, I still think Rift has a leg up on everybody. I mean DCS support as well as VR support (ASW comes to mind). But from what I understand, SteamVR is just starting to beta ASW like functions.

Visually, it is better than Rift, but I didn't see any difference when I tried the original version. But my tired 52year old eyes may have been the lowest common denominator. :D

But Rift does have a larger sweet spot, as I recall.

But for $300, I don't think you can go wrong. The "supposed" leader of the pack right now is Pimax5K+ (search for Jabbers review) but it's not generally available as Pimax is just starting to ship. But the price point is more like $800.

I'm a KS supporter, so hopefully, I'll have mine in the next three months or so.

Oculus is also currently working on ASW2 which supposedly will be much better than the current ASW. No word no when though.

I figure the Rift S will be released in the next 4 months. I'm guessing Q1 2019. But maybe they'll surprise us with a Christmas release. Although I doubt that....we would have seen more marketing build up. And it's mid November already.

If Rift updates the resolution to meet Vive Pro/Odyssey, then it would be no brainer - go with Rift S.

Until the new Rift comes out, the Odyssey + especially at this price = a great option. I was an early buyer of several Vives, Rifts, and both Odysseys. Sold the Vives as I found the Rift to be superior for cockpit games (only play one room scale game, Onward, and not that much). The first Odyssey was excellent for me, with a good enough PC/GPU, the added resolution was an improvement over the Rift, but the Rift was a bit more mature and was more comfortable. Just got the Odyssey Plus last Friday, due to upgrading my primary DCS PC to a 9900k/2080ti NVlinik setup, I'm just getting the new Plus VR unit going today. So far, it fits my face a lot better, not sure if that's just a placebo effect of the new toy so far or not, I'll post in the Odyssey Plus thread later tonight about my experience with it in DCS today.

But, for $300 USD - it's a steal. With my Microsoft Canada student discount (I'm doing a single distance learning course and qualified, haha), I paid $584 CAD + Tax (free shipping/returns from Microsoft Canada's online store, shipping was fast, same business week). That's $442 USD, and the regular retail is $650CAD/$492USD. So, $300 is a pretty unreal price. I'm going to upgrade my other 2 Rifts to Odyssey Plus if I can get the $300 USD price here in Canada, instantly.

I agree with HansangB, I think the new Rift "may" likely be our best option for VR in DCS, but until then, the Odyssey Plus at $300 is IMO the best route to take for new VR adopters, or even Rift users that want a bit better resolution (and will accept the few minor negatives that come from ASW/stuff/etc going from the Rift to the WMR units as described in this thread already.

Thanks for the thread OneSlip, saved me about $300 as I was very likely going to grab a couple more Rift+ before Black Friday. I'll wait now for the sale.

Primary DCS System: AMD 9800x3d, MSI Tomahawk 870, 6TB m.2s (2x2t, 1x2tb), MSI Ventus 5080, Seasonic 1200 PSU, 64GB Gskill 6000mhz CL30.  32" Asus 4K OLED 240hz, 49"MSI OLDED

Secondary System : 14600KF, z790 Tomahawk, 32GB Gskill 6000mhz CL32, Asus 4090, 2x2TB m.2.  VR: Quest 3 for now.

Virpil T50x2,T50CM2x2,Warbrd x2, VFX/Delta/Flankr/CM2/Alpha/Tm Hornet sticks, VKB GF3, Tm Warthog(many), Modded Cougar, VKB Pedals/MFG Pedals/Slaw Viper RX+109Cam Pedals/Virpil Pedals x2, Virpil T50+T50CM2+T50+T50CM3+VMAX Throttles/CH Fightersticksx2/CH Throttlesx2/CH peds, Quest 3.  Virpil Rotor TCS Plus.  All virpil grips, TM Grips, working on VKB  GF Grips.

Currently, ASW implementation in WMR is far better than the one implemented in Oculus, it producess less distortions specially with prop planes.

Couldn’t help myself. Unfortunately the Windows Store was out of stock and the Samsung store won’t be shipping it till the week of Dec. 16. I will probably give my OG Odyssey to someone for Christmas. Gotta go find my naughty or nice list.
