fastfed Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 I don't get this. My buddy has like 200 plus servers in his list, I see like 33. He doesn't even see the same servers I do. He tried to connect to me after making a new server and same with him with the error of "server offline" I opened my ports, dmz'd my modem (only connecting to my modem no router, with comcast gigabit connection) Turned off windows defender, turned off firewall. WHAT IN THE WORD IS GOING ON HERE!! I am so frustrated. also tried turning off ipv6

One of you may be running the "Stable" version and the other "Openbeta", also make sure you are also running the save revision number, just update to latest to be sure. Regards, Ian. Eight Ball Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 (edited) Have you checked your filters? 30 seems like an extremely low number of servers regardless of stable or open beta. Except if, like MadDog said, you've missed a few updates. Edited December 1, 2018 by Eight Ball Find The Links To All My Mods And Liveries Here (in the gallery)
fastfed Posted December 1, 2018 Author Posted December 1, 2018 yea no filters, I think we'll check our versions, i just recently re-installed the game (like 2 days ago) so I'll try re-downloading again and re installing
Lange_666 Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 Have you checked your filters? 30 seems like an extremely low number of servers regardless of stable or open beta. If on the Stable version, there's a lot less servers. At the moment i'm counting 49 with only 19 without a password. After fresh install i went from beta to stable. You get a bit more stable game but the drawback to this is multiplayer. Most people play on beta servers leaving the stable version out in the cold. It's about time ED comes with a solution The servers are community run. It's not ED's problem. The solution is to run the same version as the server you want to play on. This is SoP for 99% of games. Example : Arma, you are required to download sometimes tens of GB of mods to play on a given server, depending on what the server owner chooses. In DCS you can switch between versions using a shortcut, it takes 5-10 minutes in most cases, based on my friend doing it last night. I use stable, he used beta. He switched to stable, we played, he presumably went back to beta afterward. Relatively painless. If you don't want to meet a server's requirements that's a personal problem. Lange_666 Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 Where are the good old days when you had a game installed, fired it up, selected multiplayer and hopla, hours of fun. These days you need to know which game version you need to be on, see that you have all the mods required etc..., i'm getting old. But then... it could be easy... just one version...period, hassle over. Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. fastfed Posted December 1, 2018 Author Posted December 1, 2018 I agree! so guys, where are these "other" versions? if I just downloaded 2 days ago, from the DCS site, I assume I'm on the stable version. where is the beta version thanks. Its 11:26AM EST and there was 49 servers RIGHT NOW.
fastfed Posted December 1, 2018 Author Posted December 1, 2018 ok so my version is.. 2.5.3.23225 friends version 2.5.3.24436 thanks all, looks like you were all right
Mars Exulte Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 (edited) @Lange I can't vouch for all games, but in many cases that stuff is automated to a large extent, minimising the footwork. Mods through Steam are easily looked up and downloaded, for example, Arma does it automatically, etc. It's USUALLY not a big deal. Nothing really changed, mods etc have always been around, even back in Dos days with Doom. It just was less connected so you weren't aware of it. It's ALWAYS been that way, though, for community run servers. The only exception is MMOs, because players don't have control over the servers. DCS doesn't have an active online community, and what community it does have mostly avoids mods more than skins and textures because most the community is incapable of producing 'mod aircraft' even to the minimal standards of Flaming Cliffs. It's just too complex. And there ARE stable servers. Just not as many as there are beta servers. That's a far cry from not working out of the box. Also, the two overlap every other week usually. @OP Skatezilla has a walkthrough how to change versions back and forth via command line. It only takes a few minutes and doesn't require multiple installs. Edited December 1, 2018 by zhukov032186 Де вороги, знайдуться козаки їх перемогти. 5800x3d * 3090 * 64gb * Reverb G2

Lange_666 Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 But this doesn't change the fact that you're still better off on beta software then on stable versions in regards to doing multi-player. Which means the "real release version" offers you less then the beta which for me is a contradiction in terms.
