kaoqumba Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 I would be glad to know the differences between Lightening Targeting pod and the ALTFLIR or linked to thread where this has been discussed before now. Secondly, what happens to the present Lightening Pod when the ALTFLIR comes online? Will we be having the two pods as choices to select from? When ATFLIR appears, there will be a new FLIR effect. All aircraft, aiming pods will benefit

With the added features to the ALTFLIR, it would be a better option to carry of the two tgp the Hornet is getting Thanks kaoqumba for the info. falcon_120 Posted August 6, 2019 Posted August 6, 2019 Greater magnification and a FLIR system similar to AV8B. There may be a heat source tracking function. It is also possible to have the ability to fuse SAR radar images and optimize SAR images.Sorry but that info is just wrong. What do you mean by heat source tracking function? That is a funcrionality a targeting pod like the litening also have... And fusing SAR radar images(i guess you mean presenting a radar SAR image) is a functionality that only the latest version of some tgps posses, and for sure not the one we will receive in DCS. Harker Posted August 6, 2019 Posted August 6, 2019 From what I've read, the LITENING II and the ATFLIR have quite similar capabilities. The advantage of the ATFLIR is that it is qualified for carrier ops and has an integrated NAVFLIR module. I also read that its magnification is higher, but I'm not sure.
