Badger633 Posted March 27, 2019 Author Posted March 27, 2019 Unfortunately it is automated in DCS JTAC exchange system. My message tocontinue from dark star cuts in 10 secs after though. Akula Posted March 27, 2019 Posted March 27, 2019 Yes, now I remember. Let’s chalk it up to me not being patient enough to RTF mission briefing lol. I really enjoyed the campaign. It helped me understand DCS and the Hornet in a fun and immersive way. GREAT WORK!!!! Razor18 Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 Hay glynlewis, I just like to put every 3rd party file into DCS via OvGME, because should I for whatever reason clean/repair DCS, it will moan about not original found files to keep or remove? So if it is not created with OvGME in mind, I always make the proper folder structure for it manually. Great campaign, now I'm trying the Gori mission after failing first, but I realized 1. Altough I have chaff/flare onboard, I can't deploy any of them. Neighter with my Warthog throttle button assigned for it, nor even with the keyboard E and D presses assigned to it. Is it intentional for more challenge, or is it a bug? 2. I just realized the April 21 campaign update (kudos !). Of course I have the previous version where I progressed already until the Gori mission: how can I update the campaign now without loosing my progress? Thanks
Greyman Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 As for 1, there are a few things that need to be set up, before you can use countermeasures, so maybe check that you have all of that in place. It is going to be virtually impossible to get to where you can photograph Gori otherwise. Some things to check are:- Master Arm must be on The 3-position dispenser switch is not in the off position. if you want to use countermeasure programs, probably just chaff for this mission, then select the centre position and if you want to manually deploy the chaff, then set it to the top, bypass, position. So that you know when to throw out the chaff, make sure you have the AN/ALR-67 RWR switched on, and the EW display on one of your top 2 screens. You might also want to switch on ECM The latter 3 controls are behind the joystick, so you might want to hide that, and maybe the pilot body, to make them more accessible if using clickable controls.
Razor18 Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Shoot, I think of all the things you said, I've done everything... expect for the Master Arm, as I only had "less than lethal" camera on... Thanks for the eye opener... BTW in the next mission I could raise Warrior, but Finger only after a long serie of attempts.... Dunno what triggers Finger to reply, or what blocks him...
Greyman Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Did you retune the radio to Finger's frequency, 144.000 IIRC? If so, i wonder if it might be that opening the JTACs up together might lead to some conflict. I had a similar experience the first time i ran the mission, thinking that it might save time to open them both up together, on different radios. I restarted the mission and waited until warrior told me there were no more targets before checking in with finger.
Greyman Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Out of interest, do you bother entering the target coordinates or do you just designate the waypoint as the target and use the "laser search" function on the hud, when flying towards that target? I fly in VR, so the former was a bit of a challenge, but i've now downloaded a text copy mod, so will probably try it again, to check it out.
Razor18 Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Hi, first I've done both tgt that Warrior lased me (staying west of the western TGT group, not to wander to the other kill zone), he had let me depart, then I switched frequency, and tried raising Finger. No joy. Switching preset frequency back to 133, then 144 again, no joy. Setting frequency 144.00 on Radio 1 manually, no joy. Always within 15 miles. Wandering east'ish, but still outside of eastern SAM range, turning back to West, voilá, Finger responded after I dunno, 20 attempted calls from me. No, I brought TGP with me (just to watch TV on the long flight), but trusted briefing, so picked up laser spot with MAV seeker head. Was still a pretty good piano play on HOTAS... Great campaign, but exactly this makes it feel like it's too short... Only thing I would change are the voiceovers. Sounded rather like actors rehearsing Shakespeare, than factual pilot talk... Great action anyway, kudos for sure !
Razor18 Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Oh, something I didn't get, tried twice, same on both. Back from SAM killing, on-call CAS, hillside enemy GAZ. Gun rounds impact somewhere around the top of the pipper, instead of the dot. Back to stock A/G gun training, totally OK. What am I missing?
Greyman Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 i had that too, the first time i did it, but for some reason, the shells landed on target on the re-run. i thought it must have been something to do with my dive angle maybe.
Direwolf Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Oh, something I didn't get, tried twice, same on both. Back from SAM killing, on-call CAS, hillside enemy GAZ. Gun rounds impact somewhere around the top of the pipper, instead of the dot. Back to stock A/G gun training, totally OK. What am I missing? +1... Except that stock A/G gun has the same behavior....Is there something wrong about the A/G gun?
Razor18 Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 (edited) When I tried stock A/G gun training, I had no problem with that, so I dunno. Maybe the slope, because now looking back, it migth be that the gun pipper can't cope with hills, and maybe thinks the target is on level ground, much further out than on the slope of a hill "in between"? Will test ... Edited April 29, 2020 by Razor18
Greyman Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Could wind direction and strength affect the flight of the shells too, i wonder?
Razor18 Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 In theory yes, but the gun projectiles of all DCS ammunition the least. Highest muzzle velocity (magnitudes bigger than wind velocity), shortest flight times (in A/G 2, max 3 seconds?) and so on. Even if it is does, the effect would be much smaller, than impacting at the top of the pipper instead of the dot...

Think its due on DCS with next patch. Yes, "The Serpents Head" is a prequel available in the user files. Comes in 6 or 5 mission options depending if you have Nevada. You do not necessarily have to complete this first campaign to enjoy the second however the story line will make more sense if you do. The initial campaign although fully scripted used generated voices. The Serpent's Head 2 Campaign is fully voice acted and consists of 10 missions and continues the adventures of "Ford". It also comes with an easy air to air refuelling option F/A-18C Campaigns : The Serpent’s Head / The Serpent’s Head 2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5.0Ghz / Gigabyte 2080ti water force extreme / 32 Gb RAM Corsair Dominator Platinum 3600 / 2Tb Samsung 970 Evoplus NVMe M.2 / Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas / Thrustmaster Pedals / Valve Index.

In the meanwhile I've downloaded SH1, it will be the next on the queue after Cage the Bear. RDF 3rd Fighter Squadron - "Black Knights": "Ar Cavajere Nero nun je devi cacà er cazzo!" LordOrion Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 (edited) @Glyn Some minor bug reports/suggestions for Serpent's Head 1: 1) Mission 2: AWACS ask if flight is armed and player reply they are armed with AIM-9X while carriing AIM-9M. 2) Mission 2 and 3: Some voice communications does not have text on screen. 3) Mission 3: Please, provide TACAN and ILS channels for Stennis and/or wrote them on the Briefing. So far, the only thing I don't like of this campaign is the use of synthetic voices, which sounds a little too "strange" (looks like the "world of androids" :P), but apart of that, it looks very good... Eager to see how it goes on  Hi Thanks for the comments will certainly look to correct them. Generally I only put text with voice files that have important instructions for the player so as not to fill the screen with text all the time. This campaign was written many years ago and was my first. Didn't have volunteers to help with the voice files and so used the emulator. Not great I know but still better than just text. As I have a welsh accent self voicing was non starter . Since then have written and released The Serpents Head 2 which is fully voiced . (Thanks very much to all the voice actors that gave there time generously for me to complete that one.) I am now working on a new campaign which will have about 15 missions and will be based in Black Sea and mainly in the Gulf. Will be fully voiced by actors ( Hopefully) and will be based on the Abraham Lincoln Super Carrier. SO, ALWAYS LOOKING FOR VOICE ACTORS  F/A-18C Campaigns : The Serpent’s Head / The Serpent’s Head 2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5.0Ghz / Gigabyte 2080ti water force extreme / 32 Gb RAM Corsair Dominator Platinum 3600 / 2Tb Samsung 970 Evoplus NVMe M.2 / Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas / Thrustmaster Pedals / Valve Index.
